Wikiversity:Import/Archive 1
Thursday, October 19 - Requests
[edit source]- Could someone please import Sign_your_posts_on_talk_pages from wikipedia? RichMac 02:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- We already have a help page on signatures. Why do we need another one? sebmol ? 09:47, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, it had to do with another interlink and/or template, and I can't recall what it was anymore. I should have made a more detailed request. RichMac 17:59, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- The link in unsigned comments points in that direction. RichMac 18:02, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've simply redirected Sign your posts on talk pages to Wikiversity:Signature--digital_me 15:43, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- That only works in a search, not in a direct link, I've updated the template, and will request a removal of the redirect. Sorry for the unnecessary commentary, more learning by doing! RichMac 05:58, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit source]- Could a custodian please look at School:Fire and Emergency Management/Fire Investigator (see also b:Wikiversity:School of Fire and Emergency Management/Fire Investigator). The pages (except the top, which I'll do in a second) need to be imported and moved. I've just spent an hour and a bit importing pages for this school and have run out of time (I should have been asleep about an hour ago). --Draicone (talk) 02:24, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I completed Fire Investigator and also did Fire Officer. Need break now, but will try to do more later. Cormaggio 19:42, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

- All subpages moved to main namespace, see Special:Prefixindex/Web Design
- b:Wikiversity:Classical_Mechanics → Wikiversity:Classical_Mechanics (please move to appropriate namespace)
- I'd like a copy of m:Template:for and m:Template:for/aux. I'm assuming since I wanted a copy, but the original stays there, that we don't need an import, with an import history, so I did a transwiki paste. But if we do, feel free to delete my copy, and import the other one. But be aware that while those pages don't exist, it'll make Wikiversity:Disclosures look funny. If the transwiki paste is OK, just mark this "done". TimNelson 15:35, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see any problems with a c&p, so this should be fine.--digital_me 17:31, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit source]- http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Productive_Forking_and_Tailoring_is_Encouraged I would like this linked to from the policy discussion and voting page. If there is a place for discussion of draft policy or guidelines that is adequate as well. Forking and tailoring the material to achieve different purposes is a fairly obvious way to rapidly expand our available materials for various purposes. However, I fear much of the local wiki culture is oriented around deleting material perceived as redundant and eliminating duplication from the database. Hence a discussion of this type of useful activity from the start may be extremely useful. Thanks! Mirwin 23:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Saturday, November 4 - Re-Requests
[edit source]- Suppose this got lost in the shuffle. Could someone please bring that Cite_book over? I don't want to list a whole bunch of sources and then re-format them later on. It would help out a lot. Thanks. RichMac 08:39, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's imported now... keep in mind that we do not have import enabled from wikipedia! I had to first import it to wikibooks, then from wikibooks to here, which I'm not sure I should really do. Now at Template:Cite book --SB_Johnny | talk 11:12, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most appreciated. RichMac 04:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit source]- Could someone please import w:Template:Cite_book and ideally all the related cite pages? (The preceding unsigned comment was added by RichMac (talk • contribs) .)
- Currently the only way to do that is to import first to wikibooks, then to wikiversity... though in the case of this page that's fine, because it would be nice to have that on wikibooks too. What related pages are you talking about? --SB_Johnny | talk 17:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Old Requests for Import
[edit source](Some of these are done, some aren't. If a page is needed, please list it above, under today's date.)
For security reasons, only admins can import pages. You can list here what pages on Meta or Wikibooks you would like to have moved to Wikiversity. An admin will take care of the import as soon as possible and notify you when it is done.
Note: there is a list of pages already imported from Wikibooks that have not yet been marked with {{MovedToWikiversity}}.
- If someone could import Calculus/Building up to the Riemann-Darboux Definition and The Riemann-Darboux Integral, Integrability criterion, and monotone/Lipschitz function that would be nice, this is part of a Calculus class that I might continue next year. Fephisto 14:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

We've been working on this Wikibook for a year or so now, but it really belongs in wikiversity as it's mostly activities/challenges etc. Not sure whether Web Design should go in Information Studies or Computer Science. Also, sub topics like Javascript, PHP might cross boundaries of schools. Michaelnelson 07:36, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
How about this

- Well, I just thought that every one of these probably should be moved over at some point, so it would be good to have a list so that people see that XXX is oging to be imported eventually, as to not do extra work. --Rayc 20:52, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- If this is an unwritten policy to "guide" or "prioritize" incoming volunteers acttivities it is in serious error. Volunteers will have their own priorities and leaving their previous files in limbo is not likely to shift them from one subject to another productively. A page somewhere noted 37 files had been transwikied to date. This does not make us look like a serious going concern. Mirwin 04:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

b:Ten Stupid Things Beginners Do to Mess Up Their Contradance Experience again and b:Lohse, Martin, b:Guide to Success and Fulfillment, b:Happiness. - While true that consensus at Wikibooks isn't needed to import here, I think requesting import is premature when there is a possibility that the work might be kept at Wikibooks. Duplicating works without anyone on Wikiversity to develop it isn't good IMO. -- darklama 11:19, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I would like to request the following transwiki. The following module did not fit in at wikibooks and may be useful here, but I am not really sure if it falls under wikiversity's scope, and I don't know if a good home for it, so I can't preform my usual level of clean up after a transwiki. Since the page no longer has any active contributors at wikibooks it would be a good idea to look it over and see if it fits into this project. A record of the discussion about whether or not to transwiki may be found here.

History Essay Format & Thesis Statement
[edit source]Outcome of this deletion discussion on English Wikipedia in 2010 was to transwiki but I don't think any request was made at the time. Is it in scope for this project? January 17:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- The request was made but there was no clear follow-up. January, if you are willing to take responsibility for this page, here, I'll import it to allow you to do that. Okay? My import will *not*, then, be a decision that it is in scope. It may need to be moved, refactored, etc. However, Wikiversity is highly inclusive, generally. Glancing at the page, it looks useful to me. I'm going to go ahead and import, just to practice using the tool. --Abd 17:45, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done. I did not transwiki the Talk page because it had no real content relevant to the page's usage here. But if the Talk page is desired, let me know. Because I'm banned on Wikipedia, I cannot notify the Wikipedia community of the transwiki (except by email or with block evasion, and with strong reason, which this situation doesn't create). --Abd 18:17, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Katie Harwood
[edit source]The article w:Katie Harwood on English Wikipedia is up for deletion. The consensus in the deletion discussion is leaning towards regretful delete: the person has put work into developing it as a piece of original research. Before deleting it, it seems like it might be an idea to import it to Wikiversity as providing a space for original research is really more Wikiversity's bailiwick. If the page gets deleted on enwiki, please feel free to contact me (I'm an enWP admin) and I can help in transwiki-ing it over to Wikiversity. I've tagged it with the "Copy to Wikiversity" template. Induced stem cells from Wikipedia
[edit source]Please let me create a page "Guide for studying Induced stem cells" This page has moved here from Wikipedia as all of the Wikipedia content must be supported by secondary sources, as per w:WP:RS. We need to wait until all cited articles will be discussed in secondary sources. But, the article w:Induced stem cells most fundamentally relies on primary sources, where WP calls for primary reliance on secondaries. At the same time instructional and study guides that make use of original research are allowed on Wikiversity Furthermore, Wikiversity will offer a space not just for hosting research, but also for facilitating research through creating researcher communities. Wikiversity is the place for original research, including primary or secondary research. This includes interpreting primary sources, forming ideas, or taking observations. See Wikiversity:What is Wikiversity?# Wikiversity for researching
This article is a new type of scientific review - quickly replenished dynamic review. Its goal to combine the latest research results with an overall picture of achievements in the topic under discussion. See: w:Editing Induced stem cellsDmitry Dzhagarov (discuss • contribs) 07:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

I request that the page w:Gramophone Company of India Limited Vs. Shanti Films Corporation and others be imported into this project from Wikipedia. This revision of the Wikipedia article appears to be original research that might be suitable for Wikiversity (it reads like a periodical article). The page is presently at "articles for deletion" (AfD) so it may change drastically at any time, but we may still want to have the essay. There is no point in waiting for the end of the AfD, as most of the participants are convinced that "transwiki" isn't a possible outcome of any AfD, and can't be persuaded otherwise. - Remarkable to see the deletion discussion: w:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gramophone Company of India Limited Vs. Shanti Films Corporation and others. User:James500, you did not understand the relationship of the WMF and Wikipedia governance, the argument about "not allowed to delete" was incorrect. The Wikipedia community can basically delete whatever it chooses, and when you tell people they are "not allowed" to do what they want to do, they may well do it to spite you.
- On the other hand, I've seen closes of "transwiki." Blue Raspberry was correct, however. But it requires more work, not only a deletion (which may be routine with a transwiki close, it is merely delayed), but then a request and an undeletion. I'd have suggested a close with blanking of the page and possibly page protection, of a soft redirect, see w:Wikipedia:Transwiki log. We can see in the discussion Wikipedian ignorance about Wikiversity. That's common. --Abd (discuss • contribs) 16:35, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello everyone,
As this is the very first time I am making such a technical request, I hope I am currently writing in the right place and in an adequate way. If not, please feel utterly free to update this content by correcting any unintentional mistake I might have done.
The subject of the request is as follows:
The English version of the article devoted to the Czech-Austrian doctor and professor Johann Lahodny seems to be facing highly specific criteria on the English-speaking Wikipedia, see → correlated debate.
Given that this is also an investigative work that attempts to provide a scientific synthesis of current research still in progress, may I ask you to please perform a global import of the article to Wikiversity, including the entire Wikipedian history?
Once this operation would be done, the previous content on WP could then simply be subsequently converted into a redirection, as formerly suggested by one of the contributors via diff → 958403287. This would then avoid any duplicate entry.
Thank you so much in advance for your help and your kind assistance.
Yours sincerely,

Template:Regular convex 4-polytopes
[edit source]Please import the above template from Wikipedia, replacing the previous Wikiversity:Template of that name. I created this template at Wikiversity, and after a period of development copied it to Wikipedia, where the current version now resides. Wikiversity:Regular convex 4-polytopes is the original outdated version of this template, retained only for its development history. If there is a way to ensure that Wikiversity articles will always use the Wikipedia version of this template, without having to reimport it to Wikiversity after each edit to the Wikipedia version, that would be appropriate. (Is there a way to refer directly to a Wikipedia template in a Wikiversity article? I notice that {{W:Template:Regular convex 4-polytopes}} doesn't work.) Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dc.samizdat (talk • contribs) 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Dc.samizdat: I've tried two different ways to import this but I don't know if it was successful. Your attempts to move and edit the local template have made a clean import very difficult. Going forward, leave it alone locally and just request the import. The import overwrites and updates with more recent changes. If the changes here are more recent, you'll need to update it manually. Since the work is yours anyway, there's no particular licensing benefit to importing. You can just copy and paste.
- Regarding the use of templates from other wikis, this has been a requested feature for many years. It would most likely be a reference to Commons (similar to File:), but isn't currently possible. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 23:20, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
