You do not need to be an educator to edit. You only need to be bold to contribute and to experiment with the sandbox or your userpage. See you around Wikiversity! --Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 17:14, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

thanks[edit source]

Thank you for your contributions here; your efforts are greatly appreciated. Feel free to ping me (or any other active support staff) if you see disruptive editing patterns. I would support a Request for Curatorship if you are willing and interested in patrolling recent changes here. This would allow you to use rollback and to delete new pages that are outside the scope of our project. I understand if you would prefer not to accept additional responsibility and would merely encourage you to continue your current helpful activity if that is your preference. --mikeu talk 00:36, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello mikeu, I highly appreciate your message. I have read Wikiversity:Curators in detail. I would be willing to accept that responsibility. Do you think I could be one curator if I tried? Of course, it would be a great pleasure for me. Best regards,— Hasley (discusscontribs) 17:24, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please indicate at Requests and Nominations for Curatorship if you accept the nomination and watch for questions. --mikeu talk 18:17, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[untitled topic from 5 November 2019‎][edit source]

Halsey,

I understand that you are the new custodian for The "Atlantis Location Hypothesis".

I want to take this project that is currently in "Draft" and move it to the main page, a little at a time.

It is currently Here

https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Talk:Atlantis

more specifically here... https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Draft:Location_hypotheses_of_Atlantis

We can move as little or as much as you are comfortable with proceeding with.

Thank you

RAYLEIGH22 (discusscontribs) 17:20, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's right to discuss this particular (or any) case on a user talk page. Please use the associated talk for setting up the content, as other users have already suggested you. Bests, —Hasley 21:25, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome as curator![edit source]

I've closed the nomination as successful and flagged[1] you as curator. Given that you have extensive x-wiki experience with patrolling and that we regard your efforts at en-wv as showing cautious and sound judgement I don't anticipate the need for my mentorship to be heavy handed. Please continue the efforts that you've been involved in and know that you can ping me (or any other active WV:STAFF) for advice or guidance should you need it. I'll check your contribs on occasion and perhaps make a helpful suggestion here and there. Other than that, thank you for making en-wv a better wiki! --mikeu talk 23:36, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! I'll ask if I need help. It will be a pleasure, I'm sure, to help on this project. Regards, —Hasley 23:59, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits and use of the tools look great. Thank You! for your contributions. We appreciate the efforts you are doing. Keep up the good work. --mikeu talk 06:45, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your contibutions. Your edits make Wikiversity a better place. We appreciate your work. --mikeu talk 02:36, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you, mikeu! BTW, my apologies if I spam WV:RCA with block requests. Best regards. —Hasley 17:26, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We're appreciative of your edits at RCA. I'm considering you for full custudianiship. Would you be interested in this task? --mikeu talk 01:47, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Why not? —Hasley 12:15, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mu301: MediaWiki:Group-sysop-member should be decapitalized. This system message should have the same style as the others (bureaucrat, confirmed, curator…). Thanks! —Hasley 15:28, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like DannyS712 (talk • email • contribs • stats • logs • global account) has taken care of that, thanks. I anticipate that this nom will be somewhat controvertial due merely to the quantity of your edtits but I will support it as I believe that you have made valuable contributions to Wikiversity. I'm a little busy this week but will nominate you soon and support your nom. --mikeu talk 01:04, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm expecting that Wikiversity will need to rapidly expand our open source educational resources to support remote learning in areas that are impacted by the pandemic. (See my post in Wikiversity:Colloquium) We're going to need more staff with the tools to manage a likely influx of new participants to our community who need resources to transition to online learning. I'm going to nominate you for custodian in the next few days if you are available and willing. --mikeu talk 02:59, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I will be available whenever you wish. Thanks for your comments. —Hasley 13:38, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Please watch Wikiversity:Candidates for Custodianship/Hasley (custodian) for questions. --mikeu talk 02:01, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome as custodian![2] --02:01, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for those kind words and the support given! Best regards. —Hasley talk 02:15, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to support (thought I already had) but congrats --DannyS712 (discusscontribs) 02:20, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Efforts[edit source]

I just wanted to thank you for your cleanup efforts. You're finding a lot of things that should have been cleaned up a long time ago that were overlooked. Your efforts are appreciated! -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 16:41, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome :). I use BlankPages (enwv), a very useful tool. Kind regards, —Hasley 16:51, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 Translations[edit source]

Dear Hasley, would you help to create COVID-19 learning resource to Spanish language. No worries if is not possible. Best regards, --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 10:47, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bert Niehaus: of course. I will translate it and publish the resource on Spanish Wikiversity. Regards, —Hasley talk 12:42, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your support, I appreciate that very much --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 12:51, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Added some preliminary translations for the root page, spanish might not be correct. --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 13:08, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings![edit source]

Dear Hasley, thanks for the warm welcome! Within the last one our, I'm trying to discover what's what and how to contribute. All the world has seen how important it is to have open learning platforms and resources, since the outbreak of the pandemic forced almost every educational institute to use distance learning methods. To be honest, I'm trying to figure out the difference between an article here and an article on a Wikipedia project: e.g. How is discourse analysis different than the same on en.wiki or search and rescue and this? As a contributor on tr.wiki, I think, I will not have too much difficulty if I could understand the essence of this very project. Kind regards and thank you very much again! Dr. Coal (discusscontribs) 15:07, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. Coal. My apologies for the delayed response, I thought I had replied. Dave has already answered your question, thanks. Let me know if you still have questions. Best regards, —Hasley talk 14:08, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much again, Hasley. Dave's response was quite helpful indeed. I'm trying to get familiar to a new aspect and please, you let me know if I do anything inconvenient at this period. Regards. Dr. Coal (discusscontribs) 14:15, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Please know how much your efforts are appreciated. —Hasley talk 14:27, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

asking for help[edit source]

hello there. i saw you comment on my profile a lil while back and since I can't find a chat anywhere on here I decided to contact you directly. i want to make a lesson on morse code for Wikiversity but I don't know how to make a new page from scratch. if you could tell me how it would be great help! i can even show you what the lesson might look like in my sandbox if you want. Koupip (discusscontribs) 15:32, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Koupip: If you want to write a new resource, you might want to read What is Wikiversity and What Wikiversity is not. Please consider starting a draft in your user space, so you can work on it and it can be reviewed prior to being published. Hasley talk 18:45, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your protection on The New Mythology Suite[edit source]

Hi, I'm Gioguch. I noticed that you protected the page "The New Mythology Suite." I was just going to create the page, but I thought it might be deleted again so I decided to ask you. Why is it not appropriate to add a soft redirect to w:V – The New Mythology Suite? Some people might type in the correct title (V: The New Mythology Suite) and land up here. The redirect will help users find their way back. Please let me know if the time allows, and add {{ping|Gioguch}} on your talk page when you respond. Thank you. Gioguch (discusscontribs) 17:30, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. You can see Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! for an example of the soft redirect.

I see that there is indeed a technical issue with Wikipedia using the correct title of the album as documented at W:Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)#Colons. I'm ok with a soft redirect. Or creating a page that explains the issue with a title beginning with a V colon and linking to the W: article. I would suggest indef semi-protection to avoid repeated reversion a this has been going on for two years. Please see the redirect at W:V:The New Mythology Suite and the article W:V – The New Mythology Suite for background. @Dave Braunschweig: --mikeu talk 19:39, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gioguch: I have no objections to creating a {{softredirect}} with an explanation about it, as proposed above. However, since this involves a series of redirects (cf. The Second Generation, MX and The Final Battle), I would like to have another opinion. —Hasley talk 21:32, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hasley, are those three the only other Wikipedia articles that begin with the "V:" string? I'd like to know Dave's opinion but I'm inclined to create a few softredirects and maybe even a category for "technical" redirects. If the number is larger or likely to grow it might be better to submit a Phab ticket. --mikeu talk 00:05, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those are the only other pages; see w:en:Category:Restricted titles. —Hasley talk 14:19, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer that we have a Wikiversity: namespace resource explaining the issue. We can create a local redirect to it, and it can have links to any known Wikipedia V: articles. Main page soft redirects show up under random resources, and don't seem to add value. The local redirect and explanation seems more informative and effective. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 00:29, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dave Braunschweig: Ok, to begin, what will you suggest that the page name be, the one under the Wikiversity namespace? Gioguch (discusscontribs) 00:39, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gioguch: I've updated Help:Interwiki linking to address this. As I was starting to create the page, I realized this isn't about Wikiversity, but about helping users find the resource they were looking for. You can add additional examples to that page. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 01:00, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hasley: Can I redirect The New Mythology Suite to Help:Interwiki linking? That way, if someone types in the correct title, they can find their way back at the help page. Gioguch (discusscontribs) 02:08, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gioguch: already redirected. Hasley talk 13:29, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dave makes a good point here. I agree with his reasoning. We need to be helpfull but not confusing. --mikeu talk 02:18, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users[edit source]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Request related to your recent deletions[edit source]

Hello, can you check the global contributions of the author of 千秋 and 世界ウルルン滞在記 (pages that you recently deleted)? This is done by a xwiki abuser being violent recently, and I'm asking this because I have no permission to view deleted contributions (I only have curator permissions). MathXplore (discusscontribs) 05:10, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, MathXplore. I have already checked and blocked that LTA IP (see Special:Contributions/153.139.178.1). Best, —Hasley talk 05:17, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your actions. MathXplore (discusscontribs) 05:19, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
