Initial suggestions

[edit source]

@U3236303: Thanks for tackling this topic. Some initial suggestions:

Heading casing

Hi U3236303. FYI, the recommended Wikiversity heading style uses sentence casing. For example:

Self-determination theory rather than Self-Determination Theory

Here's an example chapter with correct heading casing: Growth mindset development

Topic development feedback

[edit source]

The topic development submission has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is below, plus see the general feedback page. Please also check the page history for changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Marks are available via UCLearn. Marks are based on the latest version before the due date.

  1. The title and sub-title are correctly worded and formatted
  1. See earlier comment about Heading casing
  2. Problematic 2-level heading structure. Too much focus on background concepts. Too little focus on the target topic. Revise.
  3. Revise focus questions and adopt closer alignment between sub-title, focus questions, and headings
  1. Move the scenario or case study into a feature box (with an image) to the start of this section to help catch reader interest
  2. The description is too long. Abbreviate. Move relevant detail into subsequent sections.
  3. Closer alignment between the sub-title, focus questions, and top-level headings is recommended
  4. The first and fourth questions are not questions
  5. The first and second questions are not relevant to this topic (too general)
  1. Insufficient development of key points that demonstrate an excellent plan to synthesise the best psychological science (theory and research) about the target topic
  2. Insufficient use of relevant peer-reviewed citations
  3. Strive for an integrated balance of the best psychological theory and research about this topic, with practical examples
  4. It is unclear whether the best available psychological theory and research has been consulted in the preparation of this plan
  5. Avoid providing too much background information. Aim to briefly summarise general concepts and provide internal links to relevant book chapters and/or Wikipedia pages for further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question(s) posed by the chapter sub-title.
  1. Consider using the Studiosity service and/or a service like Grammarly to help improve the quality of written expression such as checking grammatical and spelling errors

  1. Conclusion (the most important section) hasn't been developed
  2. What might the take-home, practical messages be? (What are the answer(s) to the question(s) in the sub-title and/or focus questions?)
  1. One or more relevant figure(s) presented and captioned
  2. The figure caption(s) could better explain how the image connects to key points being made in the main text
  3. Cite each figure using APA style (e.g., see Figure 1)
  4. Consider decreasing image size to make it less dominant in relation to the text
  1. Promising use of in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters
  2. Excellent use of one or more scenarios/examples/case studies
  3. Promising use of one or more scenarios/examples/case studies
  4. Basic use of scenario/example/case study
  5. Placeholder use of one or more scenarios/examples/case studies
  6. Consider use of one or more scenarios/examples/case studies
  7. Focus the quiz question(s) on the take-home messages for each focus question
  8. Also consider using one or more tables to summarise key information
  1. Insufficient
  2. Are there any systematic reviews about this topic?
  3. Move Wikipedia links to the See also section
  4. Move non-academic / non-peer reviewed external sources to External links
  5. Remove numbered list
  1. See also
    1. Excellent
  2. External links
    1. Not developed (see Tutorial 2)
  1. Very good
  2. Description about self provided
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile or resume such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. A link to the book chapter is provided
  1. None summarised on user page with direct link(s) to evidence (see Tutorial 03). Looking ahead to the book chapter submission, see social contributions.
  2. There is a list of social contributions on the chapter page. Move these to the user page in order to receive credit for the book chapter social contribution component.

Multimedia presentation feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's UCLearn site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is an insufficient presentation mainly because it focuses too much on general theory about stress and too little on the role of humour in relieving stress. It also lacks polish (e.g., over the maximum time limit).
  2. The presentation is over the maximum time limit. Content beyond 3 mins is ignored for marking and feedback purposes.
  1. The opening conveys the purpose of the presentation in a reasonably good way (no mention of humour?)
  2. Create an engaging introduction to hook audience interest (e.g., through an example)
  3. A basic context for the presentation is established
  4. Consider asking focus questions to help focus and discipline the presentation
  1. Comments about the book chapter may also apply to this section
  2. The presentation addresses/somewhat addresses/does not adequately address the topic
  3. There is too much content (goes over time). Provide a higher-level presentation. It is better to cover a small amount of well-selected content well than a large amount poorly.
  4. The presentation makes basic use of relevant psychological theory
  5. The presentation makes insufficient/no use of relevant psychological research
  6. The presentation makes insufficient/no use of citations to support claims
  7. The presentation makes basic use of examples
  8. The presentation provides useful/good/basic practical advice
  9. The presentation could be improved by providing practical advice
  10. The presentation provides easy to understand information
  11. Provide easy to understand information
  1. The conclusion provides a basic summary of the most relevant psychological theory and research about this topic
  2. The conclusion provides basic take-home message(s)
  3. The Conclusion only partly fitted within the time limit
  1. The presentation makes basic use of narrated audio
  2. Audio communication is reasonably well-paced
  3. Basic intonation
  4. The narration is reasonably well practiced and/or performed
  5. Audio recording quality was poor
  6. Recording volume was low
  7. Review microphone set-up to achieve higher recording quality
  8. Probably an on-board microphone was used (e.g., keyboard and/or mouse clicks were audible). Consider using an external microphone.
  9. The narrated content is reasonably well matched to the target topic
  10. The narrated content lacked synthesis of the best psychological research about this topic
  1. Overall, visual display quality is basic
  2. The presentation makes basic use of text and image based slides
  3. The font size is mostly sufficiently large to make it easy to read
  4. The amount of text presented per slide mostly makes it easy to read and listen at the same time
  5. The amount of text presented on one or more slides could be reduced to make it easier to read and listen at the same time
  6. The visual communication is supplemented in a basic way by relevant images and/or diagrams
  7. The presentation is basically produced using simple tools
  8. Hide the audio icon
  9. The Conclusion slide is not in full screen mode
  10. The visual content is reasonably well matched to the target topic
  11. The visual content lacked synthesis of the best psychological research about this topic
  1. The video title does not match the chapter title and sub-title. This would help to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation and be consistent.
  2. A very brief written description of the presentation is provided. Expand.

  4. A link from the book chapter is provided
  1. Image sources and their copyright status are not clearly indicated

Book chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Chapter marks will be available via UCLearn along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is an insufficient presentation mainly because it focuses too much on general theory about stress and too little on the role of humour in relieving stress. It also appears to be incomplete (e.g., under the maximum word count).
  1. I suspect that some of this chapter is based on unacknowledged use of genAI output; if so, it violates academic integrity principles
  2. I suspect that the recommended 5 topic development hours and 45 book chapter hours were not invested in preparing this chapter
  3. Excellent/Very good/Reasonably good/Basic use of academic, peer-reviewed citations to support claims
  4. In some places, better use could be made of academic, peer-reviewed citations (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  5. Better use could be made of academic, peer-reviewed citations (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  6. Insufficient use of primary, peer-reviewed sources as citations (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  7. Move embedded external links to academic articles into the References section, include links as dois, and provide APA style citation to the article in the main body text
  8. Move embedded external links to non-peer-reviewed sources into the External links section
  9. For citations, use APA style or wiki style, but not both
  10. Under the maximum word count, so there is room to expand
  11. For additional feedback, see the following comments and these copyedits
  1. Underdeveloped
  2. Engage reader via a case study or scenario in a feature box with a relevant image
  3. Briefly explains the psychological problem or phenomenon; provide more detail. Overly focused on stress. Insufficiently focused on the topic (humour and stress relief).
  4. The focus questions could be improved by:
    1. being more specific to the topic (i.e., the sub-title)
  1. A basic range of relevant theories are selected, described, and explained
  2. Builds on two previous chapters and/or Wikipedia article
  3. Move the links from the headings into the first mention of the key word in text
  4. Insufficient depth is provided about relevant theory(ies)
  5. Basic use of tables, figures, and/or lists to help convey key theoretical information
  6. In some places, there is insufficient use of academic, peer-reviewed citations
  7. Consider using more examples to illustrate theoretical concepts
  1. Insufficient review of relevant research
  2. Insufficient critical thinking about relevant research is evident
  3. Critical thinking about research could be further evidenced by:
  4. Some claims lack sufficient citation (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  1. Insufficient integration between theory and research
  2. Insufficient integration with chapters
  1. Insufficient as a cohesive summary of the best available psychological theory and research about the topic
  2. Add practical, take-home message(s)
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is basic
    2. Figures
      1. Briefly captioned; provide more detail to help connect the figure to the text
      2. Use this format for captions: Figure X. Descriptive caption goes here in sentence casing. See example.
      3. Each Figure is referred to at least once within the main text. Refer to each Figure using APA style (e.g., "(see Figure 1)"; do not use bold, italics, check and correct capitalisation).
    3. Citations use basic APA style (7th ed.). To improve:
      1. Do not include author first name or initials
    4. The reference list is very limited/short
    5. References use basic APA style:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation[1]
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation
      3. Move non-peer reviewed sources into the See also section for Wikipedia links or External links section for other links
  1. Basic use of learning features
  2. No use of embedded in-text links to related book chapters. Embedding in-text links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
  3. Basic use of figure(s)
  4. No use of table(s)
  5. No use of feature box(es)
  6. Basic use of scenarios, case studies, or examples
  7. Basic use of quiz(zes) and/or reflection question(s)
  8. The quiz questions could be improved by being more focused on the key points and/or take-home messages
  9. The quiz questions could be more effective as learning prompts by being embedded as single questions within each corresponding section rather than as a set of questions at the end
  10. Excellent use of interwiki links in the "See also" section
  11. Very good use of external links in the "External links" section
    1. Use alphabetical order
  1. ~2 logged, minor contributions with direct links to evidence
  2. Thanks very much for your extensive contributions
