A Guide to Wikiversity Content

This page aims to be the most complete and comprehensive guide to Wikiversity content that is possible. The lists here are mainly populated dynamically (automatically). You are offered multiple alternative exploration routes. The reason for multiple paths is that Wikiversity users are so diverse in their roles and so specific in their needs that no one exploration path would be adequate. You can find the older version of this page here.

Major starting points
By Educational Level
By Resource Type

You can browse Wikiversity by resource type. This route is rather rough and ready for the time being, as people's consistency and willingness to categorise their resources by type has been somewhat lacking. It is hoped that by spotlighting the "by resource type" exploration path, people will slowly improve the tagging of resources by resource type.

By Department

You can browse Wikiversity by department. Historically Wikiversity had something called "departments" which were put into the "Topic" namespace, and you can browse through them here.

By School Subject

You can browse Wikiversity by school subject. The school subject portals aim to give a more friendly and useful access route for users interested in pre-tertiary (pre-school, primary and secondary) education. In Wikiversity's early days, departments established themselves in a university-orientated fashion, perhaps choking out other initiatives. The school subject portals aim to offer users an alternative route to resources in their subject area which is free of the extreme specialisation which occurs at tertiary level and which is friendly and comprehensible to schoolchildren.

By Learning Project

During the course of its history, Wikiversity was instructed to organize itself more closely around "learning projects", so a structure appeared which offers an alternative way to explore content.

By University Faculty

You can browse Wikiversity by "faculty", where "faculty" is understood in the international (non-US American) sense of a major division of a university. Wikiversity is not a real university, but you can explore Wikiversity using the metaphor of a university. If you prefer the word "school" to "faculty", please skip to the box below.

By University School

You can browse Wikiversity by "school", where "school" is understood in the US American sense of a major division of a university. Wikiversity is not a real university, but you can explore Wikiversity using the mataphor of a university. If you prefer the word "faculty" to "school", please skip to the box above.

By user type

You can browse Wikiversity by user type. There are only a few of these, and the user type portals offer access routes based around the role you wish to play at Wikiversity.

By completion status

You can browse Wikiversity by the completion status of resources, which can help you find complete resources reading for using, or freshly started ones which you can help develop. Work also needs to be done on categorising resources by completion status, which is why some of the categories here are rather empty.
