Initial suggestions

@U3237728: Thanks for tackling this topic. Some initial suggestions:

Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 09:42, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@U3237728: Interesting topic selection! I look forward to reading it. I watched a Ted Talk recently called "Choosing Humility in a Self-Centered Age" and the speaker makes some really interesting points. Particularly, he says that there has always been the emphasis to "be yourself" but he argues that it has been taken too far to the point where 'Gen-Z' will see a critical breaking news and continue by saying "well, my life is great so that's all that matters! Let's take a selfie!". It is a comical Talk but I recommend watching it because it could be useful as an external link for your chapter. here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i3oz-n73DU Sincerely, Ash ashdruett 21:59, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Ash! I'll definitely give it a watch it seems very interesting and like you said, would be helpful to add as an external resource to my page! U3237728 (discusscontribs) 02:40, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Topic development feedback

[edit source]

The topic development submission has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is below, plus see the general feedback page. Please also check the page history for changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Marks are available via UCLearn. Marks are based on the latest version before the due date.

  1. The title and/or sub-title were not correctly worded and/or formatted (fixed)
  1. Promising 3-level heading structure – could benefit from refinement to concentrate on the "essential" aspects of this topic from a psychological science perspective. There is unlikely to be much scope in terms of the maximum word count for addressing much in the way of historical background and related concepts although these can be mentioned in passing, with embedded links to further information.
  2. Reasonably good alignment between focus questions and heading structure, but aim for closer alignment
  3. Quiz doesn't need a separate heading; instead embed quiz questions within relevant sections
  1. Add a scenario or case study in a feature box (with an image) at the start of this section to help catch reader interest
  2. Ideally, the image should align with the scenario
  3. A brief, evocative description of the problem/topic is planned
  4. Keep detail in this section brief; move additional info into subsequent section
  5. Reasonably good alignment between focus questions and heading structure, but consider closer alignment
  1. Excellent – key points are well developed for each section, with relevant citations
  2. Keep the religious material to a minimum; embed links to further information. Ideally, the focus here would be on how this may relate to psychological theory/research, otherwise it is largely historical/cultural information.
  3. Good balance of theory and research
  4. Conclusion is underway
  1. One or more relevant figure(s) is/are presented and captioned
  2. The figure caption(s) should include Figure X. ... (note use of period rather than colon)
  3. Cite each figure at least once in the main text using APA style (e.g., see Figure 1)
  1. Excellent use of in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters
  2. Consider use of one or more scenarios/examples/case studies
  3. Promising use of quiz question(s)
  4. Focus questions on take-home messages
  5. Also consider using one or more tables to summarise key information
  1. Very good
  2. Are there any systematic reviews about this topic?
  3. Check and correct APA referencing style:
    1. capitalisation
    2. make doi hyperlinks active (i.e., clickable)
    3. page numbers should be separated by an en-dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-)
  1. See also
    1. Excellent
  2. External links
    1. One of two required external links provided
    2. Use sentence casing
  1. Excellent – used effectively
  2. Excellent description about self provided
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile or resume such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. A link to the book chapter is provided
  1. Excellent – at least three different types of contributions with direct link(s) to evidence

suggestion

[edit source]

@U3237728: congratulations on your progress! it looks amazing.

Just from my personal point of view, may not be correct: under the overview, the second paragraph already has touched on the desirability of having humility according to studies in organisational psych and positive psych.

The third paragraph "Due to its importance to the field of psychology and wider society, this chapter will define humility...." there does not seem to be a causal relation between its important and the tasks of this chapter.

Under the cause of humility, the first paragraph "Although in research decades, numerous psychological theorists have explored a range of factors including the role of personality and traits, positive psychology perspectives, religion and social contexts, and social learning theory." I guess you mean theorists explored a range of factors from the perspectives of personality and traits, etc, etc? And the "although" does not have a follow-up sentence.

All the best!
