Talk:Motivation and emotion/Book/2023/Torture interrogation, motivation, and emotion

Initial suggestions[edit source]

@U3204500: Thanks for tackling this topic.

Some initial suggestions:

  • There has been one previous chapter that may be of particular interest: Motivation and emotion/Book/2021/Torture motivation
  • Note that this chapter can and should cover motivation and emotion. However, if you find that you want to focus more specifically on one or the other, let me know and we renegotiate the topic.
  • There is increasingly good science suggesting that torture, whilst tempting, is not particularly effective at obtaining truth, and has other undesirable consequences. But what are the alternatives?

Let me know if I can do anything else as you go along.

Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 23:11, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Topic development feedback[edit source]

The topic development submission has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history for editing changes made whilst reviewing this chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks are available via UCLearn. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date.

Title[edit source]

  1. The title is correctly worded and formatted
  2. The sub-title is correctly worded and formatted

Headings[edit source]

  1. Basic, 3-level heading structure
  2. Simplify by removing 3rd level of heading
  3. Expand the 2nd level of heading
  4. The top-level headings between Overview and Conclusion make sense - they are logical
  5. Adopt closer alignment between the sub-title, focus questions, and top-level headings
  6. Avoid having sections with only 1 sub-heading – use 0 or 2+ sub-headings
  7. Quiz doesn't need a separate heading; instead embed quiz questions within relevant sections
  8. I've changed what is torture to what is torture interrogation - closer to the topic. Keep the definitional/historical material to a minimum. The subsequent sections are more important.
  9. Add question mark to "How does motivation and emotion impact the effectiveness of torture". This is arguably the most important section.

Overview[edit source]

  1. Promising
  2. Move case study to top of section; include image
  3. A brief, evocative description of the problem/topic is planned
  4. Closer alignment between the sub-title, focus questions, and top-level headings is recommended

Key points[edit source]

  1. Promising development of key points for each section, with relevant citations
  2. The theories used are very general. Read more closer into the best psychological science about this topic and refine the choice/focus of theories.
  3. Strive for an integrated balance of theory and research, with practical examples
  4. Conclusion (the most important section):
    1. Well underway
    2. What might the take-home, practical messages be? (What are the answer(s) to the question(s) in the sub-title and/or focus questions?)

Figure[edit source]

  1. A relevant figure is presented, captioned, and cited

Learning feature[edit source]

  1. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters
  2. Promising use of example(s)/case study(ies)
  3. Promising use of quiz question(s)
  4. Consider including table(s)

References[edit source]

  1. Excellent choice of references
  2. Are there any systematic reviews about this topic?
  3. Very good APA style
  4. For APA referencing style, check and correct:
    1. italicisation

Resources[edit source]

  1. Excellent

User page[edit source]

  1. Excellent – used effectively
  2. Excellent description about self provided
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile or resume such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. Link provided to book chapter

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. Very good – two out of three different types of contributions with direct link(s) to evidence
  2. No data is recorded for Wikiversity quiz responses, so not a social contribution
  3. Also try directly improving a Wikiversity page and/or commenting on a Wikiversity page

Social Contribution Suggestion[edit source]

Hey,

This topic looks so interesting and can't wait to see it developed!

I would suggest to include information and potentially display this in a table regarding the different types of torture (in the Historical Perspective section - I would also reconsider calling this 'historical' unless the same focus will be history as it seems to be mainly the different types at this stage) so that the quiz can be easily answered. Including some (non-distributing) images may also be necessary to display.

Adding wiki-hyperlinks in aswell to save you describing things (eg. Maslow's heirachy of needs) and save your word count for more information.
