Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Opportunity for internal link[edit source]

I think there is an opportunity to provide an internal link to a Wikipedia page on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs under the 2nd heading - satisfies the assessment criteria and is also helpful for people who aren't as informed on the ideas of this theory. I also think there is potential to discuss the impact that self actualisation will have on an individual, for example higher satisfaction/happiness and high self efficacy. Gramatical changes[edit source]

Well done with your chapter so far. I have made some suggestions for some grammatical changes. For instance, at times your inconsistent with your capitals when writing "self-actualisation". Secondly, there is a sentence that could be made more concise. Lastly, perhaps revisit this in-text citation (Reeve, 2018; Fabian, 2019). Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title and sub-title[edit source]

  1. Excellent

User page[edit source]

  1. Created
  2. Used effectively
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. Link provided to book chapter

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. Summarised with direct link(s) to evidence.
  2. If a contribution is not the first one to the page, add direct links to evidence like this: View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click "compare selected revisions", and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see Making and summarising social contributions.

Section headings[edit source]

  1. Basic, 1-level heading structure
  2. The Overview should not have sub-headings.
  3. Use default heading formatting (e.g., avoid bold, italics, underline etc.).
  4. Avoid having sections with 1 sub-heading - use 0 or 2+ sub-headings.
  5. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points[edit source]

  1. The most important feedback is to be careful to address the topic/answer the question. This should not be a chapter about self-actualisation per se but about what motivates self-actualisation - there is a subtle, but important difference. Make sure the structure, focus, and content are sufficiently disciplined to focus on the latter. In this respect, the most important of the proposed content is probably in the "SDT posits a spectrum of motivation from intrinsic to extrinsic" section.
  2. Overview - Consider adding:
    1. focus questions.
    2. an image.
    3. an example or case study.
  3. Avoid providing too much background information. Briefly summarise generic concepts and provide internal wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question(s) posed by the chapter sub-title.
  4. Good development of key points for each section, with relevant citations.
  5. Inclusion of theory and research.
  6. Conclusion is well developed.
  7. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters.
  8. Consider including more examples/case studies.

Image[edit source]

  1. An image (figure) is presented.
  2. Caption
    1. uses APA style.
    2. explains how the image connects to key points being made in the main text.
  3. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References[edit source]

  1. OK
  2. For APA referencing style, check and correct:
    1. capitalisation
    2. italicisation
    3. doi formatting
  3. Remove wiki reference from bottom of page - just use one referencing style.

An edit and some suggestions[edit source]

Hi,
I did an edit of your whole chapter, I suggest removing most of the dot pints, and introduce a topic before having a subheading under the main heading ie. not going straight from the heading to a subheading but discussing what this section as a whole is focussing on. Nice work!

Revising use of dot points and overall feedback[edit source]

Hi there! Your book chapter is looking great you've done a really good job! I particularly liked that in your "Types of extrinsic motivation" table you not only provided a description but an example too! One thing I would suggest though if you have the time is to eliminate some of the dot points so they are just paragraphs. For example, your "Developmental criteria for self-actualisation" section can benefit from no use of dot points and just paragraphs. Additionally with your "goal setting" section double check that the indentations fit within its context, if that makes sense! Hope that all makes sense. Otherwise amazing work! --U3179701 (discusscontribs) 21:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit source]

  1. The title is correctly worded and formatted
  2. The sub-title is correctly worded and formatted

User page[edit source]

  1. Very good
  2. Description about self provided
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile or resume such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. Link provided to book chapter

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. Excellent – at least one contribution has been made and summarised in a numbered list with direct link(s) to evidence

Headings[edit source]

  1. Heading development lacks targetted focus on self-actualisation motivation
  2. An overly complicated 3-level structure is proposed; simplify and focus to a 2-level structure
  3. Remove colons from the end of headings
  4. Avoid having sections with only 1 sub-heading – use 0 or 2+ sub-headings

Key points[edit source]

  1. Limited revision/development of new key points
  2. It could be helpful to briefly describe and provide internal links to related constructs (e.g., fully functioning person)
  3. Use APA style 7th edition for citations with three or more authors (i.e., FirstAuthor et al., year)
  4. When there are multiple citations, they should be in alphabetical order
  5. Check and correct use of ownership apostrophes
  6. For sections which include sub-sections include key points for an overview paragraph prior to branching into the sub-headings
  7. There is too much focus on intrinsic motivation and too little focus on self-actualisation motivation (and other theoretical perspectives)
  8. Overview - Consider adding:
    1. an evocative description of the problem and what will be covered
    2. focus questions
    3. an image
    4. an example or case study
  9. Strive for an integrated balance of theory and research
  10. Include more in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters
  11. Consider including more examples/case studies
  12. Cite each reference at least once in the main text
  13. Conclusion (the most important section):
    1. Underway

Figure[edit source]

  1. A relevant figure is presented
  2. Caption should use sentence casing
  3. Cite each figure at least once in the main text

References[edit source]

  1. OK
  2. Avoid use of Reeve (2018) - instead, go to primary, peer-reviewed sources
  3. For APA referencing style, check and correct:
    1. capitalisation
    2. doi formatting
    3. page numbers should be separated by an en-dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-)

Book chapter review and feedback[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Chapter marks will be available via UCLearn along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a promising, but basic chapter.
  2. The main areas for potential improvement are to focus more on self-actualisation rather than general motivational theory and to integrate a review of research about self-actualisation.
  3. For additional feedback, see the following comments and these copyedits

Overview[edit source]

  1. Reasonably good Overview
  2. Consider introducing a case study or example or using an image to help engage reader interest
  3. Clear focus question(s)

Theory – Breadth[edit source]

  1. Basic but sufficient coverage of directly relevant theory is provided
  2. There is too much general theoretical material (e.g., the middle half of the chapter doesn't refer to self-actualisation!?). Instead, summarise and link to further information (such as other book chapters or Wikipedia articles), to allow this chapter to focus on the specific topic (i.e., the sub-title question).
  3. Builds reasonably well on related chapters

Theory – Depth[edit source]

  1. Basic depth is provided about the selected theory(ies)
  2. Tables and/or lists are used effectively to help clearly convey key theoretical information
  3. Some useful examples are provided to illustrate theoretical concepts

Research – Key findings[edit source]

  1. Insufficient use of relevant psychological research

Research – Critical thinking[edit source]

  1. Insufficient critical thinking about relevant research is evident
  2. Critical thinking about research could be further evidenced by:
    1. describing the methodology (e.g., sample, measures) in important studies
    2. discussing the direction of relationships
    3. considering the strength of relationships
    4. acknowledging limitations
    5. pointing out critiques/counterarguments
    6. suggesting specific directions for future research

Integration[edit source]

  1. Insufficient integration of relevant theory and research
  2. The chapter focused almost entirely on theory

Conclusion[edit source]

  1. Basic summary

Written expression – Style[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is very good
    2. Avoid directional referencing (e.g., "As previously mentioned"). Instead:
      1. it is, most often, not needed at all, or
      2. use section linking
    3. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. The chapter is well structured, with major sections using sub-sections
  3. Grammar
    1. Check and correct use of possessive apostrophes (e.g., cats vs cat's vs cats')

[1]

    1. Use serial commas[2] – they are part of APA style and are generally recommended by grammaticists. See explanatory video (1 min)
  1. Spelling
    1. Spelling can be improved (e.g., see the [spelling?] tags). Spell-checking tools are available in most internet browsers and word processing software packages.
  2. Proofreading
    1. More proofreading is needed (e.g., fix punctuation and typographical errors) to bring the quality of written expression closer to a professional standard
    2. Figures
      1. Figures are well captioned
      2. Figure captions should use this format: Figure X. Descriptive caption in sentence casing. See example
      3. Each Figure is referred to at least once within the main text
    3. Tables
      1. Table captions should use APA style. See example
      2. Tables are referred to using APA style
    4. Citations use correct APA style
    5. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation[3]
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation

Written expression – Learning features[edit source]

  1. Overall, the use of learning features is excellent
  2. Excellent use of embedded in-text interwiki links to Wikipedia articles
  3. Excellent use of embedded in-text links to related book chapters. Embedding in-text links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
  4. Good use of image(s)
  5. Excellent use of table(s)
  6. Excellent use of feature box(es)
  7. Excellent use of quiz(zes)
  8. Excellent use of case studies or examples
  9. Excellent use of interwiki links in the "See also" section
  10. Good use of external links in the "External links" section

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. ~24 logged, useful, mostly minor social contributions with direct links to evidence

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's UCLearn site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a reasonably good presentation

Overview[edit source]

  1. An opening slide with the title is displayed. Also display and narrate the sub-title — this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. This presentation has a basic introduction to engage audience interest
  3. Establish a context for the topic (e.g., by using an example or explaining why it is important), to help the viewer understand
  4. Consider asking focus questions that lead to take-away messages. This will help to focus and discipline the presentation.

Content[edit source]

  1. Comments about the book chapter may also apply to this section
  2. The presentation addresses the topic
  3. An appropriate amount of content is presented — not too much or too little
  4. The presentation is well structured (i.e., Overview, Content, Conclusion)
  5. The presentation makes very good use of relevant psychological theory
  6. The presentation makes little to no use of relevant psychological research
  7. The presentation includes citations to support claims
  8. The presentation makes basic use of one or more examples or case studies or practical advice
  9. The presentation provides reasonably practical, easy to understand information

Conclusion[edit source]

  1. A Conclusion slide is presented with reasonably good take-home message(s)

Audio[edit source]

  1. The presentation makes good use of audio
  2. Consider slowing down and leaving longer pauses between sentences. This can help the viewer to cognitively digest the information that has just been presented before moving on to the next point
  3. Excellent intonation
  4. Audio recording quality was OK. Odd sound at start. A bit tinny. Review microphone set-up to achieve higher recording quality.

Video[edit source]

  1. Overall, visual display quality is very good

  3. The font size is sufficiently large to make it easy to read
  4. The amount of text presented per slide makes it easy to read and listen at the same time
  5. The presentation is well produced using simple tools

Meta-data[edit source]

  1. The chapter title and sub-title (or an abbreviation to fit within the 100 character limit) are used in the name of the presentation — this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation
  2. A written description of the presentation is not provided. Providing an informative description can help viewers decide whether they want to watch or not.
  3. A link to the book chapter is provided but the hyperlink isn't active to allow 1-click access
  4. A link from the book chapter is provided
  5. The presentation is incorrectly categorised as being for kids. This introduces limitations, such as being unable to add the presentation to a playlist. More info.

Licensing[edit source]

  1. A copyright license for the presentation is provided in the presentation description but not in the meta-data
