Topic development review and feedback

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks will be available later via Moodle. Keep an eye on Announcements. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title, sub-title, TOC

[edit source]
  1. Title and sub-title do not match that listed in the book's table of contents: Motivation_and_emotion/Book/2017 - needs to be fixed
  2. Author name removed - authorship is per the editing history for the page

User page

[edit source]
  1. Created

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Contributions reasonably summarised
  2. Basic links to evidence provided
  3. The best links go to direct evidence of the contributions made. View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click compare, and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see the book chapter author guidelines.

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. Simple, effective, 2-level heading structure - could be developed in more detail
  2. Check grammar e.g., questions need question marks
  3. The definitions section could be merged into the Overview - a separate section isn't really needed for definitions.
  4. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  5. Make sure to avoid providing too much background/generic material. Instead briefly summarise background concepts and provide wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question posed by the sub-title of chapter.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. In-text links to relevant Wikipedia articles are good/helpful/recommended - but key citations should be provided to the best primary, peer-reviewed theory and research sources about the topic
  2. More could be said about different types of passion, with examples
  3. Consider adding more examples and other interactive features such as tips, tables, images etc.
  4. Ideally, develop the take-home messages and practical recommendations in more detail, with more specific examples and tips based on psychological science
  1. Excellent

References

[edit source]
  1. Very good
  2. For APA style, apply italics
  3. Use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html
  4. Do not include issue numbers for journals which are continuously numbered within a volume

Resources

[edit source]
  1. Rename the links, with the source shown in brackets after the link

--Social Contribution-- Hi there, this is an interesting and very broad topic. Hopefully we will get to see a finished product. If you're struggling to get ideas or would like an extra external link here is a TED talk by Angela Lee Duckworth exploring the power of passion and perseverance. All the best, Chantelle--Chantellej 12 (discusscontribs) 03:56, 24 October 2018 (UTC) https://www.ted.com/talks/angela_lee_duckworth_grit_the_power_of_passion_and_perseveranceReply

Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

[edit source]
  1. Title corrected; otherwise good

User page

  1. None summarised with links to evidence

Fheading

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. Focus on the relationship between passion and well-being.
  2. Basic, 2-level heading structure
  3. Avoid having sections with 1 sub-heading - use 0 or 2+ sub-headings.
  4. See earlier comment about Heading casing.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. Some development, but lacking detail in some sections.
  2. Avoid too much background info about passion per se - summarise and provide internal wiki links to further info.
  3. Theory?
  4. Research evidence?
  5. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  6. Consider embedding one quiz question per major section rather than having one longer quiz towards the end.
  1. Provided
  2. Use APA style for caption
  3. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References

[edit source]
  1. Good.

Chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via UCLearn Canvas, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. The Overview is underdeveloped. Consider expanding by merging it with the subsequent section.
  2. The Conclusion is too long and lacks precision in relation to summarising what is known in relation to the focus questions and particularly the question in the sub-title.
  3. The chapter drifts from the central topic, particular when it gets to teams etc. Whilst a team setting could be useful as a practical example or case study, it isn't clear how this helps with providing a synthesis of the best available psychological theory and research about the relationship between passion and well-being.
  4. For additional feedback, see comments below and [ these copyedits].
  1. Theory about passion is covered, but theory about the relationship between passion and well-being is less well covered.
  2. The Reeve (2018) textbook is overused as a citation - instead, utilise primary, peer-reviewed sources.
  1. Some relevant research is reviewed, but there is a lack of a comprehensive, focused, critical review of research about the relationship between passion and well-being.
  2. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is reasonably good.
    2. Use third person perspective rather than first person (e.g., "we") or second person (e.g., "you") perspective.
    3. Avoid directional referencing (e.g., "As previously mentioned").
    4. Avoid starting sentences with a citation unless the author is particularly pertinent. Instead, it is more interesting for the the content/key point to be communicated, with the citation included along the way or, more typically, in brackets at the end of the sentence.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing.
  3. Learning features
    1. Use in-text interwiki links, rather than external links.
    2. No use of embedded links to related book chapters. Embedding interwiki links links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Good use of images. One image appears to have been deleted, probably due to copyright issues.
    4. No use of tables.
    5. Excellent use of feature boxes.
    6. No use of quizzes.
    7. Basic use of case studies or examples.
  4. Grammar
    1. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Check and correct use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs individuals').
    3. Check and correct use of affect vs. effect.
    4. Check and correct use of that vs. who.
    5. Abbreviations
      1. Abbreviations (such as e.g., i.e.., etc.) should only be used inside parentheses.
  5. Spelling
    1. Spelling can be improved (e.g., see the [spelling?] tags).
    2. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize vs. hypothesise; behavior vs. behaviour; fulfillment vs. fulfilment).
  6. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Harmonious).
  7. APA style
    1. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    2. Citations are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Do not include author initials.
    3. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation.
      3. See new doi format.
  1. No logged social contributions

Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a solid presentation. Production qualities are very good. Content-wise the presentation seems to drift somewhat off topic.
  2. This presentation makes effective use of simple tools.
  1. Content selection seems in places to not match the topic: "What is the relationship between passion and well-being?"
  2. Add and narrate an Overview slide, to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  3. A Conclusion slide is presented with a take-home message(s). No mention of the potential causal relationship that passion might influence well-being?
  1. The presentation is interesting to watch and listen to.
  2. The presentation makes effective use of text and image based slides with narrated audio.
  3. Well paced.
  4. The font size is mostly sufficiently large to make it easy to read.
  5. The model is a bit blurry. The distinction between the two types of passion isn't really followed through to the Conclusion.
  6. The visual communication is effectively supplemented by images.
  1. Communicate the chapter title and sub-title in both the video title and on the opening slide this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. Audio recording quality was excellent.
  3. Video recording quality was excellent.
  4. Image sources and their copyright status are provided.
  5. A copyright license for the presentation is provided.
  6. A link to the book chapter is provided.
  7. A link from the book chapter is provided.
  8. A written description of the presentation is provided.
