Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

[edit source]

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks are available via UCLearn. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title and sub-title

[edit source]
  1. Good
  2. Capitalisation of the title/sub-title has been corrected to be consistent with the book table of contents
  3. A section should contain either 0 or 2+ sub-sections - avoid having sections which contain 1 sub-section.

User page

[edit source]
  1. Created, basic
  2. Have added link to book chapter

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Excellent

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. Well developed 2-level heading structure, with meaningful headings that directly relate to the core topic.
  2. Remove sub-headings from Overview
  3. Adjust headings to sentence capitalisation (see comment above)
  4. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. Use bullet-points (per Tutorial 1)
  2. Excellent range of precursor theories
  3. Include key citations
  4. Some sections are empty
  5. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles.
  6. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  7. Consider embedding one quiz question per major section.
  1. None provided

References

[edit source]
  1. Only provide references for citations.
  2. For full APA style:
    1. Use correct capitalisation
    2. Use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html
    3. Do not include issue numbers for journals which are continuously numbered within a volume

Resources

[edit source]
  1. Use bullet-points
  2. External links
    1. Rename links so that they are more user friendly and include the source in brackets (see Tutorial 1)

Comment

[edit source]

I enjoyed reading this chapter, it has been well thought out. I enjoyed reading about the different theories. Well done! --U3158296 (discusscontribs) 23:53, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Have to agree with the comment above! Really cool. I know it's getting close to the submission date so it may be too late for a suggestion to be of use. But just in-case, It could be cool to look at how mindfulness changes the experience and consequences of boredom! Good luck! --Joshgrain (discusscontribs) 06:10, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Feedback

[edit source]

Just thought I'd mention that I updated your quiz so that the grammar was constant throughout. I added capitalisation to the lower two questions as only the first two had them :)--U3144248 (discusscontribs) 21:04, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via UCLearn Canvas, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a promising chapter that successfully uses psychological theory to help address a practical, real-world phenomenon or problem. A stronger emphasis on reviewing research could make the chapter stronger.
  2. For additional feedback, see comments below and these copyedits.
  1. Relevant theories are well selected, described, and explained.
  2. More examples would be helpful.
  1. Basic but sufficient coverage of research involving the relation between the target constructs is provided.
  2. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Written expression
    1. Some sentences are overly long; consider splitting them into shorter, separate sentences.
    2. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing.
    2. Avoid having sections with only one sub-section.
    3. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  3. Learning features
    1. Excellent use of interwiki links to Wikipedia articles.
    2. No use of embedded links to related book chapters. Embedding interwiki links links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Use in-text interwiki links, rather than external links.
    4. Good use of images.
    5. No use of tables.
    6. Very good use of feature boxes.
    7. Good use of quizzes.
    8. The quiz questions could be more effective as learning prompts by being embedded as single questions within each corresponding section rather than being presented as a set of questions at the end.
    9. Good use of case studies or examples.
    10. Use bullet-points and numbered lists, per Tutorial 1 (e.g., See also).
  4. Grammar
    1. Use serial commas[1] - it is part of APA style and generally recommended by grammaticists.
    2. Check and correct use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs individuals').[2].
  5. APA style
    1. Direct quotes need page numbers.
      1. Select up to a maximum top three citations per point (i.e., avoid citing four or more citations to support a single point).
    2. Figures and tables
      1. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    3. References use correct APA style.
    4. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.
  1. ~24 logged, useful, social contributions with direct links to evidence.
  2. Thanks for your significant contributions.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Canvas site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient presentation.
  1. The presentation is well structured (Title, Overview, Body, Conclusion).
  2. Quite theory heavy. Consider abbreviating and including more examples.
  3. Include the sub-title on the Title slide and in the video name, to help the viewer understanding the focus and goal of the presentation.
  4. Consider putting the focus questions (good) on a second slide.
  5. The visual presentation could be improved by splitting many of the slides into several slides each, with larger font and image sizes to make them easier to read.
  6. A Conclusion slide is presented with a take-home message(s), however the take-messages are quite vague.
  1. The presentation is easy to follow.
  2. Reasonably well paced. Sometimes longer pauses could be left between sentences.
  3. Consider using greater intonation to enhance listener interest and engagement.
  4. A lot of the font size should be larger to make it easier to read.
  5. The visual communication is supplemented by images in a basic way.
  1. Add sub-title to video title and opening slide - this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. Audio and video recording quality was good.
  3. Image sources and their copyright status are provided.
  4. A copyright license for the presentation is provided.
  5. A link to the book chapter is provided.
  6. A link from the book chapter is/not provided.
  7. A brief written description of the presentation is provided.
  8. Excellent presentation of references and figure licensing details.
