Wikimedia Commons[edit source]

Hey there, I noticed you uploaded a lot of learning materials on the English Wikiversity in the form of PDF files. Would you consider reuploading them to Commons instead? We would prefer that you do, since they're free files and it makes them easier to reuse on other Wikimedia projects, such as English Wikibooks and other language Wikiversities like German Wikiversity. (Though they'd have to do a bit of translation work of course and credit you as the author under their derivative work.) I've downloaded local copies of your uploads onto my hard drive and I've been thinking about transferring the files over to Commons, but I wanted to give you a chance to take the credit for your own work. (I think people have complained I have a high editcount on Commons, even though I gave proper attribution to their works during reupload. I don't understand them, but I digress.) Maxima programming in plain view[edit source]

When using Random I came across Maxima programming in plain view. I added the speedy deletion tag as the resource only contains a couple of section headings and has been abandoned since 19 October 2013. Do you still want to keep this resource or do you want it to be deleted? Wikiversity Grant Proposal: Call for Support or Feedback[edit source]

Hi Young1lim!

A collaborator (bwsulliv) and I have submitted a grant proposal for a new Wikiversity learning project, which we are calling Eventmath. We aim to help math and statistics teachers to teach their students the mathematical thinking skills needed to make sense of current events. Specifically, the project will pair math lesson plans with news articles (or social media posts, if the goal is to debunk misinformation, for example).

I'm writing to you because we would like to gather more feedback from the Wikiversity community. I noticed that you've made recent contributions to math pages, so I thought you might be interested in the proposal. If you could either endorse the proposal or provide constructive feedback, we would really appreciate it!

Some observations on assembly programming in general[edit source]

I appreciate your work on assembly programming. A few years ago I decided to revisit x86 assembly for about a week or so (unfortunately I was not aware of Wikiversity at the time), and I found surprisingly little high-quality up-to-date material or examples (in GAS syntax). For instance, it took me some time to figure out x86 calling convention. It was also challenging to find good examples or instructive material on using the FPU, but one good resource I did find is this: https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/developers-handbook/x86-fpu.html . Finally, I don't remember finding any general notes on best practices or style in general. I had to figure out a lot of things by making c programs and then looking at the corresponding assembly output from gcc. I do have a few examples (e.g. quicksort, dot product) I wrote by hand if you or anyone else are interested. Mostly I ended up writing the functions in assembly and called/tested them with c. I don't know if they're of any value (or whether they're even good examples), but I don't mind sharing them in any case. AP295 (discuss • contribs) 12:53, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, I ended up using GAS since, for one it came with GCC, and secondly because I found it useful to look at the assembly code GCC generates. Most tutorials do not use GAS but I have no idea why considering how ubiquitous GCC is. Another subject that seemed under-documented (at that time) is the use of SIMD instructions. I hand coded a function for floating point matrix products (not using any SIMD or vectorized instructions) and was somewhat disappointed but not surprised to find that it was actually slower than numpy/openblas. Use of GFDL[edit source]

Hi! You have uploaded some files with the license {{GFDL}} only. For example File:1.SOC.3.D.Gate.MemoryArray.20160311.pdf. A proper use of GFDL would require you and reusers to include all of the text on w:Wikipedia:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License in the document. So GFDL is not a good license for media files so I would like to hear if you would be willing to relicense all the files you uploaded with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-4.0,3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0}} just like you did with File:Condition.20230506.pdf and many of your latest uploads? If you agree I can help update the license with my bot. So all you need to do is to reply in a clear way that you agree to relicense (if you do so). I have now changed the license on all your uploads so they now include GFDL and cc-by-sa-4.0,3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0.
I noticed that you and I/my bot had a little edit war on a few files :-) As I wrote above license template should only be added once on the file page. Either in permission or below in the license section. But now that all files are relicensed there should be no more edit war if you decide to add the extra license template again. But if you add 2 license templates you should make sure its the same template. In File:5MRV.1B.RPBackground.20230509.pdf you added 3.0... and 4.0...
