Suggested Reading and Viewing

[edit source]

This is a really exciting topic!! Can I suggest you read a book by Michael Pollan called "How to Change Your Mind: The New Science of Psychedelics" ( I have a copy that you can have a lend of, my details can be found on my user page). Also too, have a listen to ABC All in the Mind: Psychedelics, Addiction and Mental Health (aired 24 Feb 2019). Good luck with this topic, I think you'll find it very interesting! --NUMBLA0371 (discusscontribs) 00:09, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you need to conciser some of the negative effects of psychedelics this study found "reductions in reported levels of depression and stress; lower levels of distractibility; increased absorption; and increased neuroticism"

Here is an interesting review on Psychedelics conducted recently which you may find of interest/useful.

Hey there, what an interesting topic, I cant wait to read more about your research. I believe it may be of intret for you that I am currently writing my book chapter on Ayahuasca and Emotion and its emerging therapeutic use (including on addiction). As oour topics have quite a lot of cross over, you may want to include my page in the "see more" section of your page. Good luck and look forward to seeing your page develop!

Title and sub-title

  1. Excellent

User page

  1. Excellent

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Summarised with indirect links to evidence.
  2. Add direct links to evidence. To do this: View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click "compare selected revisions", and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see Making and summarising social contributions.
  3. Use a numbered list

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. Overly complicated 3-level structure - consider simplifying.
  2. The most important section is "How can psychedelics help (with addiction)?", followed by the Overview and Conclusion.
  3. Avoid having sections with 1 sub-heading - use 0 or 2+ sub-headings.
  4. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. The chapter plan is spread too thinly across too many sections. Avoid providing too much background information. Briefly summarise generic concepts and provide internal wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question(s) posed by the chapter sub-title.
  2. Overview is underdeveloped
  3. Conclusion is not developed
  4. The main body provided brief points in the key sections that are directly relevant to the topic.
  5. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  1. An image (figure) is presented.
  2. Caption uses APA style.

References

[edit source]
  1. Good.
  2. For full APA style, use:
    1. correct italicisation
    2. the new recommended format for dois

Resources

[edit source]
  1. See also
    1. 1 link provided (+1 external link)
  2. External links should go in external links
    1. Rename links so that they are more user friendly
    2. Also link to relevant book chapters
  3. External links
  4. Avoid Australianising - Australia makes up only 0.33% of world population - target an international audience

If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a very good presentation.
  2. This presentation makes effective use of Powtoon.
  1. An appropriate amount of content is presented - not too much or too little.
  2. The presentation is well structured.
  3. Minor: Use permanent rather relative time references (e.g., "Since the 2010s" will age better than "last decade").
  4. Minor: Use alphabetical order for citations.
  5. The Conclusion (from approx. 2:37) lacks visual presentation of take-home message(s).
  6. What are the practical take-home message(s) that we can use to help improve our everyday lives?
  1. The presentation is fun, easy to follow, and interesting to watch and listen to.
  2. The presentation makes effective use of animated slides with narrated audio.
  3. Reasonably well paced. The first third or so is a bit rushed though.
  4. Generally good intonation which enhances listener interest and engagement.
  5. The font size is sufficiently large to make it easy to read.
  6. The visual communication is effectively supplemented by images.
  1. As well as the sub-title, communicate the chapter title in both the video title and on the opening slide - this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. Audio recording quality was generally good, but sounded quite different in different parts.
  3. Visual display quality was good - not too much on one screen.
  4. Image sources and their copyright status are provided.
  5. A copyright license for the presentation is provided in the video description but not in the meta-data.
  6. A link to the book chapter is provided.
  7. A link from the book chapter is provided.
  8. A written description of the presentation is provided.

Discussion point

[edit source]

Hi,

I really enjoyed reading your chapter. Your structure and content is very well presented, interactive and interesting ! I would like to bring up a discussion point:

You discussed that psychedelic treatment for addiction could be a great motivator in the treatment of addiction however, I encourage you to consider genetic predispositions to drug induced psychotic disorder which is commonly triggered by psychedelic use. I think that it would be really important to rule out a history of schizophrenia before implementing this type of therapy. Iv have attached a source that explains this in more detail. I would love to hear your thoughts on this :)
