Feedback

[edit source]

Hi,

Here is an image which might be appropriate for you book chapter. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Self-concept.jpg Thanks, --U3154928 (discusscontribs) 08:02, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Title and sub-title

[edit source]
  1. Excellent

User page

[edit source]
  1. Created, with description about self and link to book chapter

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Summarised with direct links to evidence.

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. See earlier comment about Heading casing.
  2. Well developed 2-level heading structure, with meaningful headings that directly relate to the core topic.
  3. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. Remove overcapitalisation - use sentence casing
  2. Basic development of key points for some sections, other sections are empty
  3. Lack of development about theory.
  4. Overview - not all the focus questions are questions
  5. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters.
  6. Consider introducing a case study in the Overview.
  7. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  8. Consider embedding one quiz question per major section.
  1. An image (figure) is presented.
  2. Caption uses APA style.
  3. Caption could better explain how the image connects to key points being made in the main text.
  4. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References

[edit source]
  1. OK.
  2. For full APA style:
    1. Use correct capitalisation
    2. Use correct italicisation
    3. Use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html

Resources

[edit source]
  1. See also
    1. Very good
  2. External links
    1. Probably should be a reference
    2. Provide links to key resources

Chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via UCLearn Canvas, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient chapter.
  2. For additional feedback, see comments below and these copyedits.
  1. Relevant theory is explained.
  2. Did you consult Lecky (1945)? If not, this should be a secondary citation.
  3. The Reeve (2018) textbook is overused as a citation - instead, utilise primary, peer-reviewed sources.
  4. More use of examples and case studies could help to bring the theory to life.
  1. Overall, this chapter provides a basic overview of relevant research.
  2. Relevant research is reviewed and discussed in relation to theory.
  3. Age is argued to have a linear relationship to SCC, but then it is argued to have a curvilinear relationship. So, which is it? And what is the nature of the curvilinear relationship?
  4. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  5. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is basic.
    2. Some sentences are overly long; consider splitting them into shorter, separate sentences.
    3. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    4. Addressing the topic development feedback could have helped to improve this chapter.
    5. Use third person perspective rather than first person (e.g., "we") or second person (e.g., "you") perspective.
  2. Layout
    1. Avoid having sections with only one sub-section.
    2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
    3. Level 3 headings have been skipped (goes from Level 2 to Level 4).
    4. See earlier comments about heading casing.
  3. Learning features
    1. Basic use of interwiki links to Wikipedia articles. The links should be tidied up. For example, [[wikipedia:Self-verification_theory#targetText=Self%2Dverification%20is%20a%20social,concepts%20and%20self%2Desteem).|self-verification]] should simply be [[wikipedia:Self-verification theory|self-verification theory]]
    2. No use of embedded links to related book chapters. Embedding interwiki links links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Basic use of images.
    4. No use of tables.
    5. Basic use of feature boxes.
    6. Basic use of quizzes.
    7. The quiz questions could be more effective as learning prompts by being embedded as single questions within each corresponding section rather than being presented as a set of questions at the end.
    8. No use of case studies or examples.
  4. Grammar
    1. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Check and make correct use of commas.
    3. Use serial commas[1] - it is part of APA style and generally recommended by grammaticists.
  5. Some sentences are not grammatically complete (e.g., "Possibly due to identity formation, social influence (peers and family).").
    1. Abbreviations
      1. Once an abbreviation is established (e.g., SCC), use it consistently, don't chop and change.
  6. Spelling
    1. Spelling can be improved (e.g., see the [spelling?] tags).
    2. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize vs. hypothesise; behavior vs. behaviour; fulfillment vs. fulfilment).
  7. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Self-concept).
    2. Remove double-spaces.
    3. Sentences should start with capital letters.
  8. APA style
    1. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numerals (e.g., 10).
    2. Figures and tables
      1. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    3. Citations are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. A full stop is needed after "et al" (i.e., "et al.").
      2. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    4. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation.
      3. See new doi format.
  1. ~4 logged, useful, social contributions with direct links to evidence

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Canvas site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a basic presentation.
  2. The presentation is over the maximum time limit - content beyond 3 mins is ignored for marking purposes.
  1. Reasonably well selected content.
  2. Add and narrate an Overview slide, to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  3. A Conclusion slide is needed with take-home message(s).
  1. The font size should be larger to make it easier to read.
  2. The text presented on an angle is even more difficult to read.
  3. Consider slowing down and leaving longer pauses between sentences. This can help the viewer to cognitively digest the information that has just been presented before moving on to the next point.
  4. The visual communication is effectively supplemented by images.
  1. The chapter title but not the sub-title are used in the video title - the latter would help to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. The chapter title but a different sub-title are used on the opening slide - matching this with the book chapter helps to tie them together and to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  3. Audio recording quality was a bit quiet/fuzzy - review microphone set-up.
  4. Video recording quality was good.
  5. Image sources and their copyright status are not provided.
  6. A copyright license for the presentation is not provided.
  7. A link to the book chapter is provided.
  8. A link from the book chapter is provided.
  9. A basic written description of the presentation is provided.
