Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

Theory[edit source]

  1. Relevant theory is explained.
  2. Did you consult Lecky (1945)? If not, this should be a secondary citation.
  3. The Reeve (2018) textbook is overused as a citation - instead, utilise primary, peer-reviewed sources.
  4. More use of examples and case studies could help to bring the theory to life.

  1. Overall, this chapter provides a basic overview of relevant research.
  2. Relevant research is reviewed and discussed in relation to theory.
  3. Age is argued to have a linear relationship to SCC, but then it is argued to have a curvilinear relationship. So, which is it? And what is the nature of the curvilinear relationship?
  4. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  5. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.

    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is basic.
    2. Some sentences are overly long; consider splitting them into shorter, separate sentences.
    3. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    4. Addressing the topic development feedback could have helped to improve this chapter.
    5. Use third person perspective rather than first person (e.g., "we") or second person (e.g., "you") perspective.
  2. Layout
    1. Avoid having sections with only one sub-section.
    2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
    3. Level 3 headings have been skipped (goes from Level 2 to Level 4).

  3. Learning features
    1. Basic use of interwiki links to Wikipedia articles. The links should be tidied up.     2. No use of embedded links to related book chapters. Embedding interwiki links links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Basic use of images.
    4. No use of tables.
    5. Basic use of feature boxes.
    6. Basic use of quizzes.
    7. The quiz questions could be more effective as learning prompts by being embedded as single questions within each corresponding section rather than being presented as a set of questions at the end.
    8. No use of case studies or examples.
  4. Grammar
    1. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Check and make correct use of commas.
    3. Use serial commas[1] - it is part of APA style and generally recommended by grammaticists.
  5. Some sentences are not grammatically complete (e.g., "Possibly due to identity formation, social influence (peers and family).").
    1. Abbreviations
      1. Once an abbreviation is established (e.g., SCC), use it consistently, don't chop and change.
  6. Spelling
    1. Spelling can be improved (e.g., see the [spelling?] tags).
    2. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize vs. hypothesise; behavior vs. behaviour; fulfillment vs. fulfilment).
  7. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Self-concept).
    2. Remove double-spaces.
    3. Sentences should start with capital letters.
  8. APA style
    1. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numerals (e.g., 10).
    2. Figures and tables
      1. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    3. Citations are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. A full stop is needed after "et al" (i.e., "et al.").
      2. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    4. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.

  2. The presentation is over the maximum time limit - content beyond 3 mins is ignored for marking purposes.

  1. Reasonably well selected content.
  2. Add and narrate an Overview slide, to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  3. A Conclusion slide is needed with take-home message(s).

  1. The font size should be larger to make it easier to read.
  2. The text presented on an angle is even more difficult to read.
  3. Consider slowing down and leaving longer pauses between sentences. This can help the viewer to cognitively digest the information that has just been presented before moving on to the next point.
  4. The visual communication is effectively supplemented by images.

  1. The chapter title but not the sub-title are used in the video title - the latter would help to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
