Hi, Looking forward to reading your chapter on emotion and health. I'm interested in finding out whether there's a correlation between the number of negative emotions experienced and the individuals overall health... very interesting! S K Hill (discusscontribs) 02:37, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey, it was really interesting,I just fixed a few spelling and grammer mistakes, hope you don't mind. I'm sure you have a bit more to add, visually it looks quite good just needs a bit more work. Punkey77 (Punkey77Punkey77)

Some thoughts

[edit source]

Hello! Not sure if you're still looking for help on your chapter but I have a couple of suggestions:

Maybe some focus questions for your overview

  • What emotions impact our health?
  • What can we do to improve our health through emotions?

Potentially add something interactive like a quiz on the chapter content? Happy to get you started if you need some help figuring out the back end stuff :)

Didn't want to tread on any toes by editing but minor changes:

The Purpose of Emotions The answer to "How Many Emotions are There?" is quite arbitrary, but there are a set of basic 6; fear, anger, disgust, surprise, happiness, and of course, sadness (Ekman & Friesen, 1982).

Would consider changing it to: Ekman & Friesen (1982) suggest a set of 6 basic emotions comprised of fear, anger, disgust, surprise, happiness, and of course, sadness.

Hope this helps!

Adding a quiz

[edit source]

Really easy!

Depends on what you want to do though. If it's just a simple A B C D quiz all you have to do is as follows...

Just paste the following into your page:

<quiz display=simple>
{The brain structures that deal with motivation and emotion are known as what system? (note that type="()" means radio buttons (only one correct answer)
|type="()"}
+ Limbic.
- Endocrine.
- Digestive.

{My second quiz question goes here - note that type="[]" means checkboxes (multiple correct answers)
|type="[]"}
+ First correct answer
+ Second correct answer
- Wrong answer

{Put as many questions as you want, as long as it starts with curley brackets
|type="()"}
- wrong
+ right
- also wrong
</quiz>

Then it comes out like this:

1 The brain structures that deal with motivation and emotion are known as what system? (note that type="()" means radio buttons (only one correct answer)

Limbic.
Endocrine.
Digestive.

2 My second quiz question goes here - note that type="[]" means checkboxes (multiple correct answers)

First correct answer
Second correct answer
Wrong answer

3 Put as many questions as you want, as long as it starts with curly brackets

wrong
right
also wrong

I did one for emotion and sleep that looks like:

<quiz display=simple>
{'''When it's time for me to go to sleep'''
|type="[]"}
- I don't have any problem falling asleep.
+ I seem to have trouble falling asleep.
+ It takes me more than 30 minutes to get to sleep

{'''During the night I find myself waking up'''

|type="[]"}
- Not at all - I sleep through the night
- Once or twice
+ Three or more times

{'''When I wake up in the morning'''

|type="[]"}
- I feel bright and refreshed
+ I don't feel like I've had a good night's rest
+ If I feel unrefreshed, I'd rate it as moderate, severe or very severe
+ If I feel unrefreshed, it is despite having enough time to sleep

</quiz>

1 When it's time for me to go to sleep

I don't have any problem falling asleep.
I seem to have trouble falling asleep.
It takes me more than 30 minutes to get to sleep

2 During the night I find myself waking up

Not at all - I sleep through the night
Once or twice
Three or more times

3 When I wake up in the morning

I feel bright and refreshed
I don't feel like I've had a good night's rest
If I feel unrefreshed, I'd rate it as moderate, severe or very severe
If I feel unrefreshed, it is despite having enough time to sleep

One more thing...

If you're still stuck with it happy for you to give me a call :) I work with computers so can imagine how daunting it is when you're struggling to learn how to use the thing as well as doing the actual work! Cheers Chris 0423426198

Overall

[edit source]

Some interesting information is presented in this chapter, however it does lack flow and clarity in areas.

Appropriate theories are presented in this chapter, however they are explored too briefly. To improve further, chose fewer theories and explore them more thoroughly. Some discussion around practical application will also improve the chapter.

The chapter is comprised of some interesting information. Try to organise the research more clearly, and relate it specifically to the theories presented.

Written expression can be improved by working on a logical flow between ideas and sections of the chapter. The current structure is difficult to follow in sections. To improve further, spend less time discussing the topics of emotion and health separately, and more time exploring how the topics relate to each other. Perhaps the inclusion of a quiz will also help to make the chapter more interactive. ShaunaB (discusscontribs)

Overall

[edit source]

A nice summary of the theory is included in this presentation. Research is also incorporated. The flow is logical for the most part, however it is not as clear towards the end.

The presenter speaks clearly, confidently and at a nice pace. The use of pictures helped to make the presentation more engaging. The slide on practical examples seemed to be skimmed past - it would have been nice to spend a short amount of time on this.

Sound and picture quality are good. The presentation comes across as quite professional, but could be improved with a few more practices. ShaunaB (discusscontribs)
