====OpenStax College Physics: Oscillations

OpenStax College Physics: Oscillations is your "future" textbook and currently an option for your project(s). One idea is to write an equation sheet based on this book and post it on Wikipedia.

  1. Physics equations/Sheet/All chapters is the equation sheet we are using in this course.
  2. OpenStax University Physics Volume 1/Equations (master) is a sample of what we want, except that this is for the calculus-based "engineers" version of the course (PHY2400-2410)
  3. OpenStax_College_Physics/Equations_(master) is a start I made on the formula sheet for openstax College Physics (your textbook)

====Why is the sky dark at night? Three things to do: See movie, look at test, read the wikiversity page. IMHO: Text, Movie, Page and perhaps repeat? Your project: Evaluate that opinion, and perhaps write a report on it.

  1. They all liked the movie. After one viewing they think they need one more (average). It would be good to see it one more time, but not today. Nothing else needed. NB: If you are interested in improving this quiz by adding about 5 more questions, let me know.Guy vandegrift (discusscontribs) 16:38, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Projects

[edit | edit source]
  1. Write a complete an polished solution/explanation for each question you missed on Test 1
  2. Document the SCR (Thyrister) problem in Mr. Circuit
  3. Detailed notes on textbook College Physics and NEXT YEAR'S EQUATION SHEET

The breakdown electric field in dry air is 3 x 106 V/m

  1. Suppose a sphere with circumfrence of 0.9 meters is charged up to the point where air breaks down at the surface. What is the charge, the voltage, the capacitance, and the stored energy?
    1. 20pF; 500kV; 2.5J.
  2. Use the fact that a Van der Graff generator makes a spark that is 0.1 m long. What is the charge, the voltage, the capacitance, and the stored energy?

Simple model of a diode. The ideal diode would have infinite slope for V>0 and zero value (and slope) for V<0
  1. We need this report
  2. The best intro is the first two minutes of this video. Then look at w:Thyristor
  3. Start chapter 12

  • Reviewed RC time. Introduced "linear differential equation" Simple way to do special:permalink/1391133. Time to change by factor e^N is to say time=N*R*C.
  • Brief review of Chapter 21
  • Did the physics of each problem in 1391166 to a22Magnetism_forces, with the understanding that the class wants a day to practice these problems for the test. (We can make this part of your project!).

As of 2/19/18 we just did the torque on a loop of wire and talked about how galvanometer works. 3====R 3/8/18==== 3====F 3/9/18==== 3====M 3/12/18==== 3====T 3/13/18==== 3====W 3/14/18==== 3====R 3/15/18==== 3====F 3/16/18==== 3====M 3/19/18==== 3====T 3/20/18==== 3====W 3/21/18==== 3====R 3/22/18==== 3====F 3/23/18==== 2====M 3/26/18==== 2====T 3/27/18==== 3test====
