JavaScript Problems

[edit source]

Anyone else noticing JavaScript problems (no toolbar when editing, no VisualEditor, etc.)? It doesn't appear to impact anonymous users, but I've tried three different browsers on a couple of different platforms and it doesn't seem to be working for me.

It would help to have others confirm or not, so we can try to figure out what code is causing the problem. It might be custodians/bureaucrats only, or only two-factor authenticated users, or users with a certain gadget turned on, etc.

I checked with Stewards, and they confirmed that it wasn't working logged in for at least one of them. I started phab:T152067 for this.

Reported in the issue tracker as phab:T152067. --AKlapper (WMF) (discusscontribs) 13:01, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One of the issues was related to Move the Edit Link [1]. As far as I can tell, this code is no longer necessary. I've removed it. Let me know if you see any user interface differences regarding Edit links. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 00:48, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Automatic math numbering and referring

[edit source]

What is the suggested way to refer equations on Wikiversity? How can I add labels to equations and place references to them?

--Tuzesdaniel (discusscontribs) 15:57, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! I don't think we have a standard. I have tried experimenting with numbering equations, but every system has faults. I vaguely recall a template that puts numbers to the right, but I don't think they are automatically numbered, meaning you have to redo everything every time you add or remove an equation. I wish they had that Latex system where equations are "named" and referred to by name, and Latex does all the rest. Some Wikipedia articles place the number in front of the equation, and I strongly endorse that practice. There is no reason to force wikitext to look like Latex. For the most part, I try to avoid numbers altogether, and rely on section headings. There are simple ways to refer to those (e.g., using #sectionheader links). My philosophy is that simplicity and convenience trumps professional appearance.--Guy vandegrift (discusscontribs) 08:34, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Noticeboard, maybe?
