Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Topic development feedback

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks are available via UCLearn. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title, sub-title, TOC

[edit source]
  1. Excellent

User page

[edit source]
  1. Very good

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Links don't go directly to evidence of contributions (it should be easy to see the changes you made at first glance, without any searching)
  2. See suggestions for how to record social contributions

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. A reasonable 3-level structure is suggested - consider simplifying to a 2-level structure
  2. The initial top-level headings such as "What is addiction? "aren't really needed - cover these concepts briefly within the Overview or subsequent sections, with links to dedicated Wikiversity/Wikipedia resources for more info. This will allow the bulk of the structure to be focused on addressing the core topic (the chapter's sub-title). From a marking criteria point of view, the key section will be "How does

mindfulness affect addiction?" - consider expanding this section.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. Although several dot points are suggested, none seem to address the topic - what is the best available psychological science that can help to answer "How can mindfulness affect addiction?"
  1. OK
  2. Expand figure caption to explain how it relates to one or more key points in the text

References

[edit source]
  1. Good
  2. Use APA style - e.g., no issue numbers for seriated journals
  3. For latest APA style recommended format for dois see http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2017/03/doi-display-guidelines-update-march-2017.html

Resources

[edit source]
  1. Use bullet points

Journal article suggestions

[edit source]

Hi Kartar,

I found some articles that weren't in your references and might be useful to integrate into your chapter. The first one is just a general overview of mindfulness meditation in relation to clinical applications (for addiction) in a historical context, another one about "mindfulness-based addiction treatment (MBAT)" for smokers, and the last one covers relapse prevention for alcoholism and substance abuse. Chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this chapter...
  2. The Overview contains a lot about addiction, but not much about mindfulness or, most importantly, their relationship. This issue is also reflected in the main body.
  3. For additional feedback, see comments below and these copyedits.
  1. There is too much general theoretical material (the first half of the chapter!). Instead, summarise and link to further information, to allow this chapter to focus on the specific topic.
  1. There is relatively little review of research in general, or about how mindfulness can influence addiction in particular.
  1. Written expression
    1. Clarify of expression can be improved (e.g., opening sentence includes two " thought of"s.
    2. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. Avoid having sections with only one sub-section.
    2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
    3. Use default Wikiversity headings for sub-headings (that way the sub-headings will appear in the Contents).
  3. Learning features
    1. Use in-text interwiki links, rather than external links.
    2. Integrate links within the main body to other related book chapters.
    3. Basic use of images - can be improved by using the captions to connect more strongly to key points being made in the main body.
    4. Good use of tables - add APA style captions.
    5. Basic use of quizzes.
    6. Good use of case studies or examples.
  4. APA style
    1. Refer to each Table and each Figure at least once within the main text.
    2. References are not in full APA style e.g.,
      1. Check and correct capitalisation.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is an excellent presentation that makes effective use of Powtoon animation.
  1. Well selected and structured content - not too much or too little, with Title, Overview, Body, and Conclusion.
  2. Excellent examples and practical implications.
  3. Theory is well explained.
  4. There is virtually no mention of research.
  1. The presentation is fun, easy to follow, and interesting to watch and listen to.
  2. Well paced. Excellent pauses between sentences. This helps the viewer to cognitively digest the information that has just been presented before moving on to the next point.
  3. The font size is sufficiently large to make it easy to read in the time provided.
  1. Overall, excellent production.
  2. Use the full chapter title and sub-title on the opening slide and in the name of the video because this helps to match the book chapter and to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  3. Audio and video recording quality was excellent.
  4. A copyright license for the presentation is provided.
  5. A link to and from the book chapter is provided.
