Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Topic development review and feedback

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks will be available later via Moodle. Keep an eye on Announcements. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title, sub-title, TOC

[edit source]
  1. Very good
  2. Capitalisation of the title/sub-title has been corrected to be consistent with the book table of contents
  3. Authorship details removed - authorship is as per the page's editing history

User page

[edit source]
  1. Created
  2. Used effectively

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. Summarise the contribution
  2. Provide a more direct link - the best links go to direct evidence of the contributions made. View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click compare, and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see the book chapter author guidelines.
  3. Use a numbered list

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. A 2-level heading structure is planned - which is about the right level of complexity/detail
  2. Make sure to avoid providing too much background/generic material. Instead briefly summarise background concepts and provide wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question posed by the sub-title of chapter - currently this isn't addressed until the 4th top-level section - start directly addressing the topic earlier in the chapter and the vast majority of the chapter should be about this topic (i.e., the chapter sub-title).
  3. Measures of personality are not of much relevance to this chapter - unless they can be demonstrably related to happiness.
  4. A strong personality theory structure is suggested - which appears to be quite general - how does this relate to happiness? A more profitable approach could be to seek to understanding happiness, and theories of happiness, and individual differences in happiness which can be related to personality characteristics. Having said this, there is a good research literature e.g., about the relationship between the Big 5 personality traits and happiness which should be summarised - e.g., would lend itself to a table based on a major review/meta-analysis of the research literature.
  5. Separate sections for theory and research are suggested. Stronger chapters tend to integrate discussion of theory, research, and examples/tips/etc.
  6. A section should contain either 0 or 2+ sub-sections - avoid having sections which contain 1 sub-section.
  7. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  8. Remove citations from headings

Key points

[edit source]
  1. Key points are suggested for most sections
  2. Overview - focus questions are helpful, but what else? e.g., examples/case study?
  3. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles.
  4. Consider including more examples/case studies
  5. Ideally, quiz questions would be related to the relationship of interest, not just to personality or just to happiness
  1. One image provided - ideally, the image caption would support the text which addresses the question - i.e., what is the relationship, not what is personality or what is happiness

  1. See also
    1. Very good
    2. Use sentence casing (i.e., capital for first letter of title and subtitle but not the rest of the words)
  2. External links
    1. Excellent

Chapter review and feedback

[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is an insufficient chapter because it does not provide an adequate summary of relevant psychological theory and research, with practical, take-home messages.
  2. For additional feedback, see these copyedits.
  1. The separate constructions of happiness and personality are described in basic terms.
  2. There is very little discussion of theory about why/how personality might be related to happiness.
  3. No examples or case studies are used.
  1. There is an overemphasis on measurement of constructs, rather than on their substantive relationships.
  2. Where relationships are discussed, also consider their direction and size.
  3. The actual relationships of interest are not stated until the Conclusion - and then, without relevant citation.
  4. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  5. Greater emphasis on major reviews and meta-analyses would be helpful.
  6. Some statements are unreferenced - see the [factual?] tags
  1. Written expression
    1. Some of the bullet-points should have been in full paragraph format.
  2. Learning features
    1. Adding interwiki links for the first mention of key words would make the text more interactive.
    2. Basic use of images.
    3. Basic use of tables.
    4. Basic use of quizzes.
  3. Spelling, grammar, and proofreading.
    1. Check and correct use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's).
  4. APA style
    1. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    2. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numbers (e.g., 10).
    3. Use APA style for Table captions.
    4. Provide more detailed Figure captions to help connect the figure to the text.
    5. References are not in full APA style e.g.,
      1. See new doi format.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this presentation does not adequately summarise the psychological literature about the assigned topic.
  2. The presentation is underdone (e.g., well below the maximum time limit).
  1. The presentation does not adequately address the topic - it focuses only one personality factor.
  2. Narrate the Title and sub-title, to help the viewer understanding the focus and goal of the presentation.
  3. Add and narrate an Overview slide, to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  4. Many of the comments about the book chapter also apply here - e.g., what's the point of discussing measures?
  5. The presentation could be strengthened by adding a Conclusion slide with practical, take-home messages.
  1. The presentation is reasonably well narrated.
  2. The visuals are easy to follow.
  3. Consider reducing the amount of text on the most text-y slides.
  1. Use the full chapter title and sub-title on the opening slide and in the name of the video because this helps to match the book chapter and to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. Audio and video recording quality was very good.
  3. Add a link to the book chapter and a description of the presentation.
