Comments welcome

[edit source]

Hello, and welcome to my page.

If you have any helpful suggestions or input, please feel free to leave a note here. Thank you!

Hello U100155,

I am really enjoying your Chapter so far, the fun anecdotes make me giggle :)

looking at your subheadings I was wondering if the debate is about the existence of Misophonia as opposed to what kind of problem it actually is :)

Kind Regards, Stephanie Feltham

Hello Stephanie! Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I was coming to the conclusion that no-one really doubts misophonia is a thing, it is more that they are interested in whether it should be classified as a psychiatric illness or not. It's not in the DSM, but some people think it should be while others regard it more as a hearing issue. It's quite interesting to read the different viewpoints!

Hi again,

Oh wow that's actually really interesting, I never knew that It was, in some circles, considered to be a Hearing issue rather than a mental health issue. I really look forward to seeing how you develop this Book chapter :)

Kind Regards, Stephanie Feltham

P.S I love your cat pic!!!!!!!!!

Title, sub-title, TOC

[edit source]
  1. Excellent

User page

[edit source]
  1. Created
  2. Used effectively

Social contribution

[edit source]
  1. No logged contributions with links to evidence.

Section headings

[edit source]
  1. 2-level heading structure driven by focus questions which relate directly to the overall topic (good)
  2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points

[edit source]
  1. At least one key point per section, including many citations (good)
  2. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles.
  3. Consider including more examples/case studies
  4. Wikiversity can link to embedded sounds from Wikimedia Commons - perhaps search for sounds there to see if there's anything relevant
  1. Well used - maybe caption should refer to misophonia?
  2. Consider increasing image size from default

References

[edit source]
  1. Excellent sources.
  2. For full APA style:
    1. Include space after author initials abbreviation
    2. Use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html
    3. Do not include issue numbers for journals which are continuously numbered within a volume

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a rich, interesting chapter on a relatively novel topic.
  2. Excellent, engaging Overview - but, be careful - is misophonia only related to eating sounds? Clarify.
  3. For additional feedback, see these copyedits.
  1. Symptoms, causes, and theories were very well described and explained, with illustrative examples.
  1. Rather than "subjects", refer to "participants".
  2. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. Greater emphasis on major reviews and meta-analyses would be helpful.
  4. Some statements were unreferenced - see the [factual?] tags
  1. Written expression
    1. Write in the third person perspective, although first person scenarios/case studies could be used. But the chapter should be collaboratively-authorable into the future, rather than in the voice of a single author.
  2. Layout - well structured
  3. Learning features
    1. Interwiki links are well used.
    2. Quotes for misophonics are interesting and helpful.
    3. Some limited use of images.
  4. APA style
    1. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numbers (e.g., 10)
    2. Citations
      1. A comma is needed before "&" for citations involving three or more authors
    3. References are not in full APA style e.g.,
      1. Add spaces between author initials
      2. Do not include issue numbers for journals which are continuously numbered within volumes.
