Comment[edit source]

This looks really interesting so far, looks like you have done some good work. Well done! It's a really interesting concept and I think it would be quite an uplifting topic if it were to be published in a self-help book - even just the language used and the fact that there is still an association made between failure and happiness. That they aren't discrete concepts and they can co-occur. Love it! Good luck with it all, if I come across anything interesting in my studies (my topic is goal setting) I will be sure to pass it on! Failure[edit source]

Hello there, looks really good so far! I was wondering, how does failure impact on a person's happiness? does it motivate them to try harder, or perhaps just give up? You'll probably discuss this later, but just in case! DorisWeasley (discusscontribs) 03:12, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes I am definitely including a section on how failure impacts on a person's happiness, it will be included towards the middle section of my chapter after I introduce the chapter :) thanks for your comment! Pheonix (discusscontribs) 11:57, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Your page is looking real swell so far, can't wait to see the end product! I like how you've talked about the relationship between failure and happiness. I was thinking though that you could perhaps add in some more real life examples, so that people who read this can relate to it more. E.g, remember when you were in high school and you failed a test....etc. DorisWeasley (discusscontribs) 01:56, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I also saw you haven't referenced your quote in the reference section, better to be safe than sorry to reference everything you've used:) DorisWeasley (discusscontribs) 01:58, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit source]

FYI, I've added an example image. More similar images could be found on Wiki Commons e.g., commons:Category:Joy. Feel free to let me know if you have other questions. Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 22:05, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, Wikiversity convention is for lower case headings. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 04:23, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks James, fixed the headings :) Pheonix (discusscontribs) 11:55, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Hi Pheonix, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! Of course you can link my chapter through yours. I agree with you completely, I feel like they do compliment each other nicely. If you don't mind me doing the same? You've done some great work so far! --U3068359 (discusscontribs) 02:45, 25 October 2013 (UTC)u3068359[reply]

Hey there! This is only such a minor thing but instead of your focus question saying "What is 'failure' and 'happiness'?" should it say "What are 'failure' and 'happiness'?" or "How do we define 'failure' and happiness?". It just felt a little clumsy whilst reading it. Im finding the colours and pictures really engaging! --Bridgiedidge (discusscontribs) 03:57, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits[edit source]

Hey Hey, your chapter is looking great. I just made some VERY minor edits, just in your PERMA model...i just added colons, after each of the main ideas...like, Relaltionships: etc. It looked a little strange without them as you started some of the sentences with the same word. Also, I'm not too sure about it, so i left it as is, but in the last line of your positive psychology paragraph, "individuals' " should that be individuals? I'm not sure there is any need for an apostrophe. DorisWeasley (discusscontribs) 04:37, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support thy!! As with Doris I have made a very, very minor edit to your wonderful looking page. In your "think about it" section - which is a great section by the way, you were missing that all important comma. I changed it from "Thirdly how did you overcome this" to "Thirdly, how did you overcome this" Great Chapter, good luck with final edits!!!!! HELLO! Thanks for the edits! I actually haven't had a chance to go over my chapter yet! So once I finish with the content, which I think is more important, I'll go over the whole thing! Thanks!Pheonix (discusscontribs) 09:39, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some more small edits![edit source]

Hello again there Pheonix! I was taking a quick read of your work, and I fixed up a few grammatical mistakes like a comma here and there. There were a few sentences which i was a little unsure about:

  • Optimism and happiness
'...however some humans can learn coping skills that immune them from passivity and helplessness' I think this sentence sounds a little strange because of the word immune. I think i know what you are trying to say in this sentence, but perhaps change the word or say something like "humans can learn coping skills that make them immune from..." but I still think the word sounds a little strange.
  • education and occupation after the "think about it" box

there's a line that says "its people reported higher levels of happiness than in other developed countries..." do you mean other developing countries? or are you comparing it to developed countries? if its the latter, than perhaps change the sentence a little bit by saying "levels of happiness compared to developed countries..."

  • leisure and recreational activities

I didn't really understand the citations used here: Lu (1994), recently conducted a study with Chia-Hsin Hu (2005), does this mean that Lu used information from 1994 in the 2005 study...? sorry, it's just a bit confusing.

Your book chapter is well written and has some very interesting information! Good luck! DorisWeasley (discusscontribs) 10:53, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

H e l l o[edit source]

Hey Pheonix! Great looking chapter you have completed here!! Favourite part would have to be the smiley face man dancing at the start! Definitely got me in a happy mood before I started reading! Your think about it box I also found quite a good break in the reading, as well as introducing the next sections you talk about! Great work :) TomMarvoloRiddle (discusscontribs) 23:41, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overall[edit source]

A very interesting chapter, well done.

Theory[edit source]

The chapter had some good theoretical coverage – I love positive psychology myself, well done. For future improvement, engage in critical analysis of the theories

Research[edit source]

The chapter explored some interesting and seminal research, well done. For future improvement, include some more current research, the 10 year rule is a good rule of thumb. The chapter also needs some inclusion of critical analysis

Written expression[edit source]

The chapter had some written expression issues, a thorough edit before submission can help this.

The learning features included figures, well done. For future improvement include some in text links and perhaps an interactive feature such as a quiz. The APA style was generally solid, good job. Remember to apply APA style to all figures, include page number in reference after direct quotes, and include DOI or web address for each ref. Great effort!Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)
