Subtitle[edit source]

I recommend subtitles for all chapters. e.g., "Emotional intelligence - What is it? Do you have it? How can it be developed?". The subtitle can be changed. See some of the other chapter subtitles to get an idea - Motivation and emotion/Book. Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:47, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thinking about this and my comment below re focus questions - I'd suggest perhaps taking the current subtitle and using these as the focus questions (modify as appropriate) for the chapter. Then replace the current subtitle with something simpler and punchier. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:35, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit source]

Hi there. Your page is coming along! I like the story idea at the start. I've left an image on your page which I thought you might be able to use if you're taking an organisational focus. Though feel free to delete if you don't like it :-) TabithaJ 02:56, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Thanks Tabitha U112052 03:58, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I like the direction the opening is taking, contrasting two different people in the same situation. Something like EI really makes a difference in the workplace, especially in managers! Looking forward to reading the rest. Jaybay 09:38, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray. Looking great. Just before Callista goes off line 2.1 should read Emotionally Intelligent, 2.1 should read upper case E in emotional. Second line of intro should probably read "...slackening off of..." I haven't had a chance to look at the rest in any detail, but I really like the drop down sections. AlexMC 23:02, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray. Page looks good and I like the scenarios. I felt a little lost though, reading the scenarios 'first off'. Maybe consider a small intro announcing what the chapter is about ie. emotional intelligence, to more clearly indicate to reader the point of the scenarios, theory etc is. Crazydaisy 00:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)crazydaisy[reply]

Hi Ray. The page is looking good. I like the intro's to the different models. If you wanted you could include more on how Bar Ons model is based on traits and that Salovey's model is based more on branches of abilities and how this may differ. Also to add to a comment before, certain jobs may require may more EI than others and that specific traits/abilities are required in these jobs. (Benk 05:19, 22 October 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Hey Ray. I got a chance to look at those drop boxes in a bit more detail. I think that what you have done there is, really, very good. As a reader of your chapter I figure I'd get a bit sick of reading the various theories in a standard paragraph style. Looks good and so far is informative. AlexMC 06:17, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ray, thx for the article on Volunteering and Happiness - great help. Ms Crazy (some days) and Ms Daisy (the rest) Crazydaisy 23:23, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Crazydaisy[reply]

Hi Ray, i have just been looking around at a few pages to see how everyone is coming along with their chapters. It seems you have some good ideas going, maybe you could add a few tables/boxes to break the page up. Keep up the good work --Jessica.h 07:49, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray, your chapter is looking really great! I always enjoying reading about EI as I am a huge believer in the it's importance. Maybe you could include something about testing for EI in schools? I have heard that this is a recent advancement in some educational settings and again, think it's great. Best of luck for the unit, Shauna ShaunaB 10:16, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray. Saw the changes. What I was thinking about during yesterday's tute was something like this... (Intro... your text upto ....to inform behavior. New para and insert....

The key theories developed by Gardiner and others, that paved the way for the evolution of EI are shown below. Clicking the radio button to the right of each box shows descriptions of the theory in expanded form. AlexMC 01:30, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OOps. Sorry Ray, that should be under the 'So what is this emotional intelligence thing'..... not the Intro. My BadAlexMC 01:42, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray! In response to your moodle post I've had a read through your chapter and think it's great! I have gone through and fixed up some little typos for you (I hope you don't mind - you can always undo them in your 'view history' tab if need be). Most (if not all) were just instances where there was no space between bracket and the next word. My only other comments/suggestions would be to make the picture under 'Is emotional intelligence really intelligence?' bigger as I can't read it at the moment, and also maybe you could change the colour of the drop down boxes. The dark purple is a really nice colour but I found it a bit much on the eyes and had to focus to read the black writing. There is a link to all the colours available on the moodle page. I hope this is helpful! ShaunaB 07:51, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray, your chapter is looking great! Your introduction sets up your chapter nicely. As Shauna mentioned, if you could make that picture bigger that would be helpful as it is currently hard to read. AngeM 12:37, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray, I like your page. The links are great with nice reference to other book chapters. I like the link to the intelligence questionaire and I wonder if you could put something more that relates that back to the individual - what they can do or how the quiz results may help to improve/change their emotional intelligence? Wish I was as far along as you! Ltb 00:41, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray

Your page look great i like your use of colours and picture placement, however i remember from our first tute that you said you were thinking of using a quote. Not sure if you eliminated this but i think it would be a great addition to your page. Great work so far :) Shelley u3032917 --152.91.9.124 01:44, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray - Great page and intresting read. I agree with Shelley - I have seen a few quotes on other people chapters and it seems to be a nice introductory or concluding finish :) LanaJ 01:39, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray. I adjusted some of your reference list (added italics and a few commas) and some of the in-text citations (added a space here and there). Hope that is ok. Oh and thanks - you forced me to look up APS 6th edition referencing guide. I realised I don't have the volume number of the journal in my reference list. Eeek a bit of work to fix that up! Also, great job on your page - it's looking really good! TabithaJ 02:10, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ray. I have had a read of your page. I'm really liking the content on the Melrose school and the content under "is emotional intelligence really intelligence?". The meta-analyses you have used show there is a lot of empirical evidence out there to support EI as a tangible construct. Maybe have a think about some good "take home points" would be my suggestion for the summary. I do like the logical flow of the content from history through to what can we do today to improve our EI. TabithaJ 04:18, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki links[edit source]

Well done on adding links to Wikipedia articles. Currently these have been added as external URLS. That's OK, but even better is to change them to interwiki links e.g., Emotional intelligence ([[w:Emotional intelligence|Emotional intelligence]]). -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:25, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Focus questions[edit source]

This chapter could benefit from clearly establishing some focus questions in the Introduction before or perhaps after the case example. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:32, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Casing[edit source]

I think just use "emotional intelligence" rather than "Emotional Intelligence" unless you are talking e.g., about a specific measure. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 04:52, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction[edit source]

I gave the structure for the Introduction a tweak. The scenario is helpful, but I think we need a stronger introduction giving the reader a quick overview of what this chapter is about before diving into the scenario. There is a great emphasis in the chapter on practical questions, so make the most of this by introducing these problems and the concept of EI in the Introduction. Then move to the scenario. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 04:54, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What a wonderful introduction on the video - you are very talented - great information and very well presented - well done - Magnolia

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall comments
    1. A very strong chapter, widely researched and critically analysed around a comprehensive theoretical framework.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theory comments
    1. The theoretical evolution is thoroughly discussed.
    2. The boxes and point summary of each dimension demonstrate good style and assist in facilitating understanding of these theoretical constructs.

Research[edit source]

  1. Research comments
    1. Exhaustive list of references!
    2. Fantastic to see the inclusion of meta-analysis research and the actual statistics such studies provide in support of EI training programs as well as critical analysis of the limitations of EI.
    3. The Schutte Assessing Emotions Scale could perhaps be included in the discussion of the various EI scales.
    4. This chapter provides a comprehensive discussion on EI and research that shows it can be modified, along with tools for self-assessment. But how can an individual interested in improving their EI achieve this outcome? The conclusion seems to suggest this will become more evident as EI research progresses.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression comments
    1. The conversational style is engaging and well executed, but try to avoid contractions in formal APA style.
    2. In the introduction, three and then four main streams of EI research are mentioned.
    3. The hypothetical scenario expertly demonstrates the different managerial styles associated with EI, personalising and contextualising the topic for readers.
    4. The title, “Can you learn to be emotional intelligent” could be rephrased as “emotionally intelligent”.
    5. Some words appear to be accidentally omitted or extraneous (“validity can be ruled because”; “this chapter will critically examine the concept as whole”; “based on more on mass media”).
    6. The chapter is well-presented and structured, incorporating multiple design features that enhance the page.

Bell curve image[edit source]

The image at http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/File:Bell_curve_and_IQ.jpg seems misplaced and of dubious accuracy and, i believe, should be removed from this page. - it does not relate to the paragraph it is attached to- it is about IQ, not emotional inteligence - it's claims about driving, SAT scores, poverty, years in school etc are not sourced, and look questionable to me. If such claims are made, they should be backed up by reliable sources. I have written these comments also in the abovelinked image source page.

I share this concern. I am removing it. TheFeds (discusscontribs) 21:34, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
