Where is the sense of organization??!?![edit source]

(Reprint from Colloquium)

There are too many Portals and and Schools and Topics etc!!! This has become ridiculous! If a contributor has looked through the standard channels (portal, school, department, etc.) found nothing and then added something, at what point does futility seem obvious? Is it the point at which that contributor realizes that there was another page all along buried in the swamp, unlisted anywhere??? Please...PLEASE reduce the number of divisions within this structure!
- gustable

I think the intention is to draw an outline and allow the innards to be filled up. However, I will agree that too many division with too many empty pages make things look -- empty. I will see what can be done on this. Historybuff 15:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Topics - where do they go?[edit source]

Where is the best place for Thermodynamics ? 57.66.65.39 15:38, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would Cybernetics, Robotics, Computer Control, and Automation, all be topics included in Automation Engineering? Or should separate Engineering Departments be created? If we include it all in one department I would suggest naming it Department of Control Systems. josteinaj 2006/12/12, 16:37

Relevant Wikibooks[edit source]

I've been working on a number of wikibooks in the subject of Engineering, and I would like to (a) advertise those books as being a valuable resource to learning efforts here, and (b) ask interested participants to help develop those books further by adding some sorely-needed content. Some of the better books are:

I would like to see wikibooks and wikiversity work closely together on projects like this in the future. --Whiteknight 03:36, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, We kinda split off from Wikibooks, so doesnt that kinda instantly make us "Work Closely"  Heltec  talk

I recommend to add a BookShelf Title and a Open TextBooks subtitle in order to add your links to the wikiversity page.

Like this

bookshelf[edit source]

Open Text Books[edit source]

and all of the open books on the subject that you find. In the other hand, I think there also should be references to recomended books in that fields.

BTW see if you find interesting this site: The University of Michigan Chemical Engineering Process Dynamics and Controls Open Textbook is a student created open source textbook. 190.16.136.21 21:17, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Learning Projects[edit source]

It would be a good idea to sponsor not only internal projects but also external ones that get in line with the wikis visions, please debate.

Here I post one I found about and is pretty interesting:

That is pretty slick. --Remi0o 05:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comp sci related stuff[edit source]

I'm starting to try and organize the computer stuff a bit more logically. I've started to touch on the Portal (I'm using your page as an example), and have done a lot of work on the Category areas. I'm looking to make contact with the editor(s) for this page, so we can co-ordinate content and maybe develop a common page template. Historybuff 19:42, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Radio and Television[edit source]

We've started a content development group for Radio and are planning one for Television. We plan on covering the topics covering both Engineering and Technology aspects and Media Studies aspects. Please have a look and contribute if you are so inclined. CQ 02:51, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Web Design part of Computer Science?[edit source]

I would like to bring up for consideration the appropriateness of Web Design being under the heading of Computer Science in the department structure. While the "Web" part of the name lends itself to technology, the distinction of Web Design in universities is typically under the umbrella of Art or Graphic Design rather than Computer Science.

This being said, I would love to see a Web Development department that covers all bases of client and server side scripting (PHP, ASP, JSP, Javascript, etc). I guess the differences would be seen in the definitions of design and development. While the design and development have a tendency to overlap at times, for educational purposes, there are very clearly defined differences that may be better acknowledged with the placement of the Topic pages.

The system is flexible. the Web Design pages can be linked to by multiple portals and school pages. If you need a version of an existing learning resource that takes a different approach to the topic, feel free to create a new page or a subpage. --JWSchmidt 17:07, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OCW and Wiki[edit source]

I am wondering if Wikiversity and OpenCoureWare on MIT's website could work together? I was looking on the site and they have over 1700 courses! If someone "in charge" of either of these projects could maybe work out something between Wikiversity and OCW, I think both would benefit a lot. Just a thought.

As I understand it, OCW has a more restrictive licence then GFDL, in paticular the part where OCW licenced courses can only be used for non-commercial purposes. Now, this doesn't mean that we can't base content or use the course material in a Wikiversity hosted forum, but it does mean that we can't host a copy of the complete coursework here, as GFDL is applicable to all locally hosted material. Did you have a course in mind, by the way? Historybuff 21:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technical Writing Classification[edit source]

Hello folks...where to put the Technical_writing content in this portal? I've got the links in the news section (looking less newsworthy every passing month, BTW) but technical writing and requirements writing should be somewhere in the topic structure.

Thing is, it's a shared process/artifact/skill in so many aspects of engineering, design, and management.

So rather than insert without discussion, I'd love to hear your advice on the matter. TWFred 16:40, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Electrical/Electronic Engineering Orientation/Aptitude Course[edit source]

Entrance-test like course for Electrical/Electronic Engineering completed. Please visit cousre home page, for Comments; reviews and critisism please use course talkpage. I think this course can be upgraded in future as follows:

  • Questions marked for engineering field identities i,e Each question related or proves inclination to a particular engineering field.
  • student gets a field recommendation after attempting questionaires.
  • Guided tours to each engineering field according to questionaire result/recommendation.

I know the list above may look daunting and ambitious, but I guess this deparment embodies human ingeniusness. we must live up to the name! - Thuvack 10:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NPTEL courses[edit source]

There is a huge set of video courses on many engineering subjects by the Indian Government which is now available on youtube. These will be very useful as material for courses.
