We need a Movie Reviews page

[edit source]

@Joshua.t.holo, Dan Polansky, and Koavf: If we put this under a Movie Reviews top page, with a "call for reviews", we might get more pages like this. And, pages like this are likely to get more views since many (most) will assume that page is about geography. I started something at Essay/Collection, but plan to move it and this page to Movie Reviews/Paris, Texas after sleeping on it. Time for a 5-minute nap.--Guy vandegrift (discusscontribs) 17:13, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

In my ideal world, this would be called "Paris, Texas (review)" or "Paris, Texas (film review)". Since, putting it to Movie Reviews/Paris, Texas suggests it is part of a project "Movie Reviews", but that is not so. My view is that one should not use quasi-namespaces (e.g. "Movie Reviews/", "Essays/") for purposes well served by categories. Thus, from my standpoint, the flatter the better except for when the subpages are really governed by the superpage, as e.g. in PowerShell and e.g. PowerShell/Expressions.
To get more pages of a class, we need to make clear that the project accepts the class and that the pages do not run the risk of being deleted as "not educational"; that's what's important. --Dan Polansky (discusscontribs) 18:44, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
But there is already a precedent: Book Reviews was created by user:Koavf way back in 2015. In fact, I was going to copy much of what he did. We also have Student Projects, which is a hodge-podge of student efforts. You don't have to be enrolled in a brick and mortar university to do a student project on Wikiversity. I have placed generic "calls for essays" on a number mainspace pages: Socialism, Fiction writing, Libertarian socialism, Sustainability. Even though you put Openness up for deletion, I strongly oppose. Furthermore, User:Jtneill edited my "call for essays", which indicates his tacit approval of the concept. Also I refer you to the policy on Wikipedia that puts the burden on those who oppose deletion of a page. To further support my contention that "Openness" will not be deleted: The Wikipedia policy page Wikipedia:What "no_consensus" means states that if there is no consensus to delete, then the decision is to keep.--Guy vandegrift (discusscontribs) 22:16, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
