Hey EFA, I was just wondering if you happen to find anything to do with achievement and envy or something along those lines we could probably link both our pages together. Good luck with your chapter! --EssDubz 11:19, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Liking the look of the page, maybe shrink the Rafael Nadal picture, as long term goals seems kinda weird looking there. I'm not sure if you can change it (as yours is the first quiz I have done), but it came up wrong if I didn't put answer A, and also gave me a mark out of 12. If you can't change that maybe just put a note somewhere saying ignore it. Otherwise good work Mlac 10:13, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there - this is a really interesting topic! I think your quiz is a great idea but you need to include clarification regarding the 'scoring system'. At the end of the quiz you say if you answered mostly 'c' etc...but you don't say which answers correspond to what. I hope that makes sense and is helpful! Hi, just a couple of comments. As a non-sporting person I would probably be more inclined to 'read on' if there were a couple of non-sport related examples of extreme achievers in the Introduction. I also noticed there is a 'Summary' heading at the bottom of the chapter. Just a reminder to put in some text. Good luck. Crazydaisy 05:47, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated. EFA 15:55, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Liked the GCOS and 'Flow' diagram - excellent research and lay out - well done - Magnolia28

Chapter review and feedback

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this chapter provides a basic overview of goal setting theory, I-E motivation, and SDT, with examples of people who have demonstrated high achievement motivation. It is surprising that there is not more focus on achievement as a need and achievement motivation theory. It is also surprising that there isn't more research and theory review from sport psychology, in particular, given the focus on sport in the examples used. Quality of written expression could be improved by addressing grammar issues, in particular.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Useful, although basic, coverage of goal setting theory, I-E motivation, optimal arousal/flow, and SDT.
  2. Flow theory and extrinsic motivation were not related to extreme achievement?
  3. No mention of nAch and achievement motivation theory.

Research[edit source]

  1. Reasonable use of research as examples.
  2. A more review about high performance in sport and other domains could be developed.
  3. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. The chapter could have benefited from a more developed Introduction and Summary, with clear focus questions (Introduction) and a clear take-home self-help message for each focus question (Summary).
    2. Getting comments on a chapter plan and/or earlier chapter draft could have helped to improve the chapter.
    3. Some statements could be explained more clearly - see the [explain?] tags
    4. Avoid directional referencing e.g., "As previously mentioned"
  2. Learning features
    1. Greater use of interwiki links could be made
    2. Some useful images were added with appropriate captions
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar for several sentences could be improved - see the [grammar?] tags
  4. APA style
    1. Only use et al. for subsequent citations with three or more authors.
    2. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    3. The reference list is in excellent APA style
