Feedback[edit source]

Michelle! I love your chapter, honestly it's so hard to find something wrong with it! You have a variety of interactive components which relate really well back to the topic. I love the use of colour and pictures and how you have a for and against section you're working on! If you haven't already found this article - Martinsen, E. W. (2008). Physical activity in the prevention and treatment of anxiety and depression. Nordic journal of psychiatry, 62(sup47), 25-29. doi: 10.1080/08039480802315640 that tells you some interesting info about the relation between exercise and depression, it also relates to a CBT perspective if you want to add more to your CBT section :) Keep up the awesome work! --Bt1718 (discusscontribs) 5:56, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much! I've tried to incorporate a few different things to keep it interesting! Thanks for the article, it's really useful. All the best with your chapter! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 10:21, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with the above! This has been a really interesting chapter to read and the use of the applied examples was great. I have added a few stray commas to ensure your references are correctly formatted and added 'Figure 4' to your last image caption so it is consistent with your other figures Other than that it was flawless. Great work! U3036568 (discusscontribs) 09:26, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank-you so much! Sometimes after looking at it for so long you forget to check the little things! I always forget about the figure formatting. Good luck with your chapter! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 23:18, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Michelle, I think your chapter is FANTASTIC! Informative content, easy to read layout, interesting quiz and really good topic (I am a huge supporter of exercise to improve mood and it works for me!!)! One thing to maybe consider, you have a video linked in your chapter, and James mentioned that for videos/pictures make sure it is referenced in your writing to indicate it's relevance and importance (e.g. Figure X is an informative video which clearly illustrates the running cycle and gives an example of what it looks like in action) something like that - so that when the person is reading the words clearly link/flow to the pictures and videos.. and so forth. Just a suggestion, feel free to take it on board or disregard it! Your chapter is great either way! :-) Em.jacobs (discusscontribs) 02:44, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Em! Thanks for that, I completely forgot he mentioned that at all! I'll add it in, so readers know what it means. Best of luck with your chapter! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 11:13, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Thanks James! I think I've fixed most of them up now! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 06:48, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Michelle, Your book chapter looks great! I love the formatting and different visual effects you have incorporated into your book chapter. Great work. As I was looking through old book chapters I came across one called Depression in athletes. There was a section talking about positive psychology and how staying active helps reduce the likelihood of becoming depressed. They referenced Mostafai, A. (2012). The Comparison between athlete women and non athlete women regarding to mental health and happiness. Annals of Biological research, 3(5), 2144-2147. Maybe this research could help you if you felt the need to add more content to your chapter. James also put a yellow star next to it indicating he liked the book chapter if you wanted to take a look. Here is the link to the other book chapter. https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Motivation_and_emotion/Book/2014/Depression_in_athletes Good luck, it looks great!

External links[edit source]

You could maybe add a run-tracking app as one of your external links (eg. Map My Run) U3083676 (discusscontribs) 23:19, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion! I never would've thought of that but it could be really useful to readers. U3096454! (discusscontribs) 23:22, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Michelle

Thanks for providing very useful feedback regarding my bookchaper on flow and mastery. I've had the pleasure of reviewing your bookchapter and was very impressed indeed! Your content is clear and logically sequenced. The overview introduction built interest on the basis of shared interest and clearly established the importance of the topic. Figure 1 was an excellent find and your use of hyperlinks was very effective and placed well. The spacing between dot points under the heading 'what causes depression?' was not even in my viewing, you may wish to check this. Beginning paras with phrases like 'So really...people have...' was a pleasant conversational contrast to paras that were more dense. Your use of multiple quiz opportunities helped with retention, and the same applies to the use of 'how does this apply to running' text.

You may wish to consider hyperlinking the phrase 'runner's high' to the relevant wikipage, which itself had a lot of interesting related information.

The focus on running is clear, however, given the benefits of running are so great and the dangers of depression are also significant, you may wish to consider making a small reference to alternatives to running that offer similar benefits without some of the injury risks that can arise with running, which may broaden the audience for your chapter.

Under your external links, you may wish to include links to organisations that relate to running, given that running is a focus of your chapter. Perhaps consider: www.aura.asn.au; www.coolrunning.com.au; www.runningcalendar.com.au; and www.runningaustralia.com.au. These sites offer advice about proper running technique, safety, club, social programs and community information and much more on the benefits, lifestyle and culture that surrounds running.

Thanks again for your assistance and I wish you all the best with your chapter.

Kind regards

Daniel u118741

Hey Daniel! Thank-you so very much for your detailed feedback! The external links were really helpful - I've added some to the bottom of my chapter. However I was unable to find the "Runner's High" wiki page you were talking about? Could you send me a link? Thanks again!! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 11:52, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Possible issue with formatting[edit source]

Hey Michelle, Your chapter is really great! It is clear that you have read very widely and worked hard to integrate such a large amount of information together. This is a really interesting and relevant topic with good practical applications. I only noticed one issue to do with formatting it is occurring in 'behavioural model' section. The blue box has come over to the left a bit far and is cutting off some of the title. I'm still figuring out how to format the boxes myself. If I work out how to fix it I will amend it for you! --U3083687 (discusscontribs) 15:35, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I think I amended the issue! Thanks for picking it up for me. I think it works ok if the browser is set to 100%. Let me know if you need any help with your formatting! U3096454! (discusscontribs) 11:36, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  2. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theory is widely covered; perhaps too widely - it could be more effective to focus on a smaller range of theories, but in more depth.
  2. Has the question been answered? What role can running play in the treatment of depression? The summary of the chapter's response to this question could be made more clear in the Conclusion.
  3. Addition of case studies could be helpful.

Research[edit source]

  1. The review of research is reasonably good, but seems to be somewhat inconclusive.
  2. Include the meta-analysis by Craft et al.: The effect of exercise on clinical depression and depression resulting from mental illness: A meta-analysis
  3. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. Avoid sections with only one sub-section. A section should have no sub-sections or at least two sub-sections.
    2. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
    3. Put all headings into sentence case
  2. Layout makes effective of the wiki environment.
  3. Learning features
    1. The chapter some use of interwiki links - more could be added.
    2. Quiz questions are used effectively to encourage reader engagement.
