Comments[edit source]

Hello there. I am excited to see your topic what a great idea. I really like the idea of horticultural therapy alongside the fact you can grow food too, good old two edged sword. I am really interested to find out from you chapter why gardening makes so many happy. I don't know if gardening makes people unhappy I have never heard that but maybe it is an autonomy considerations. All the best with you writing. --David James Stevenson (discusscontribs) 11:24, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I'm really intrigued by this topic! I think your structure may need more emotion elements to it? But I understand that you're still drafting! :) I found on this website some really helpful studies that helped my knowledge on this topic a little bit and gave me a sort of understanding on gardening affects on emotion!

Good luck!

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a borderline chapter which could mainly be improved by incorporating greater consideration of relevant psychological theory, better use of in-text citations for claims, and getting help with quality of written expression, particularly grammar. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theoretical coverage is weak.
  2. What is Horticulture Therapy? Explain.
  3. What is Attention Restoration Theory? Explain.

Research[edit source]

  1. Many statements were unreferenced (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  2. When describing important research studies, provide some indication of the nature of the sample and possibly cultural context.
  3. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  4. Present research which helps to better understanding the role of theory in understanding the effect of gardening on emotion.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. The quality of written expression could be improved (e.g., see where clarification templates have been added to the page).
    2. The chapter would benefit from a more developed Overview and Conclusion, with clearer focus question(s) (Overview) and take-home self-help message for each focus question (Conclusion).
    3. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. To improve, add images, tables, quizzes, overview, conclusion, see also, and/or external links sections.
  3. Learning features
    1. Interwiki links could be added (e.g., to relevant Wikipedia articles and other Wikiversity book chapters) to make the text more interactive.
  4. Grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar of many sentences should be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags)
  5. APA style
    1. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    2. Check and correct the APA style formatting of in-text citations.
    3. Check and correct the use of "&" vs. "and" (Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets).
    4. The reference list is not in full APA style.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient presentation.

Structure and content[edit source]

  1. Structure and content is sound.
  2. Slides contain minimal visual information (e.g., consider including more text and/or images)
  3. Research is well covered, but psychological theory could be more clearly addressed.
  4. Include citations.
  5. A conclusion slide summarising the take-home messages could be helpful.

Communication[edit source]

  1. There are overly long pauses between slides, otherwise audio is clear and well-paced.
  2. Visuals are clear and easy to read, but lacking in detail.

Production quality[edit source]

  1. No link was provided from the book chapter to the multimedia presentation - this has been fixed.
  2. Fill out the description field (e.g., brief description of presentation, license details, link back to chapter).
  3. Sound recording quality is mediocre - review microphone set-up.
  4. A copyright license for the presentation is not indicated (e.g., in the description or in the presentation slides).
