Hello, I just had a look at your chapter. I would say that it is good to explain dance types, but you have spent 500 words on what they are. I think (for the criteria) maybe you could focus more on the theoretical and especially incorporating some research into this. Also as it could be argued that dance could be undertaken for intrinsic reasons (at home with no one watching) and extrinsic (wanting the praise on stage) could you involve achievement goal theory? and a comparison between mastery and performance goal orientations? In your 'external links' section, you might possibly look at linking some websites to dance organisations or 'learn to dance classes'? Looks great though :) Ccgmjb (discusscontribs) 09:16, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I just wanted to point out that you should add a direct definition of motivation and dance. Maybe link them to other external wiki pages such as dance and Motivation. it would help readers understand what you mean by motivation But totally up to you! Different styles focus on different skills

[edit source]

Hi I just had a look at this and I think it's going well. Maybe include something about how different dance styles value different abilities and link that to why a person would be drawn to that style. For example some styles are more spontaneous, and others are more choreographed and controlled.U3052443 (discusscontribs) 10:03, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Possibly include some information on music?

[edit source]

Dance and music are pretty closely linked so you might be able to find a way to include this information. It is mainly to do with mental health and music, or music therapy.

This information could be linked to what motivates people to dance in relation to expression mood or increasing wellbeing. Hope this is helpful. --U3083687 (discusscontribs) 14:11, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Headings

[edit source]

Hi, your page is looking really good! I did notice that you've got a number of words capitalised in the headings, and I think the format is to only capitalise the first word.

Also, I noticed you've got a youtube clip link. You can link these - the instructions are here: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Making_links.

Looking forward to seeing your finished page!

Hi, I love your reference to dance moms :) here is a link to another chapter this year on a similar-ish topic that might be helpful called pole dancing motivation Also i noticed that your page does not have a title at the top for example dance motivation: ... --U3081508 (discusscontribs) 05:27, 28 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Really interesting chapter topic! I just wanted to let you know that you should try to put some captions on the images you have to explain what they are there for. :) It will look neater and give anyone who reads it an explanation of why you decided to use that image. For example, each image might be a different style of dancing. You could add a caption explaining what style of dance is being performed and maybe something extra related to motivation. You should also try spreading them a bit so they don't look clumped together, although you might already be planning on doing this when you finish your plan! Good luck! --U3105368 (discusscontribs) 03:54, 20 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Useful Article

[edit source]

Hey, the structural layout of your page is coming along really well! I found this article which you might find useful - doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0122866 It's a self report paper examining why people dance! Best of luck with it. U3096454! (discusscontribs) 11:23, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I think it is important to explain the types of dance there are, but don't get too carried away with that part, I found that I started rambling a bit in my chapter moving away from motivation so just be careful. I was looking at this and I think looking into wanting to express ones self and being part of a community may be ideas to look into to broaden the topic if you needed to. Otherwise it looks great! I am loving the pictures! U3097561 (discusscontribs) 13:26, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Awesome chapter, with a lot to talk about in it! Really good that you've linked it back to motivational theories and provided diagrams for each of them to illustrate your point. Just to go off the person above, if you find you're going over the word limit, maybe cut back on the types of dance there are, as it's not as necessary to talk about. The quiz is overlapping with an image, so just remember to move that below the image! Good use of external links. Maybe consider moving figure 3 of the ballerina to somewhere else as there's a lot going on amongst all the images and diagrams. Didn't want to remove the double spaces after a few full stops in case you intentionally did that. It's fine either way to double space or do one space after a full stop, but just letting you know it's there if that wasn't your intentions to do so! Keep going at it, can't wait to see it when it's finished! --Bt1718 (discusscontribs) 9:29, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Hi

[edit source]

your topic looks interesting. I like the use of internal links i think it is a good amount. However, i would suggest changing or adding to the section of the role of motivation as it has one sub title and they have to have at least two. Also im not sure if you already know but the quiz seems to be repeating the same question. Lastly, i would suggest maybe adding another coloured box or something to break it all up or dot points. Good luck --U3081508 (discusscontribs) 11:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Your book chapter is coming along nicely! I like all of the different definitions and links you have put throughout the book chapter. I would suggest talking about the achievement motivation theory. You can talk about the goal theory as a motivation for individuals to dance and succeed these goals also. I have also changed a few grammatical errors. Looks great so far though :)--U3096825 (discusscontribs) 10:47, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is chapter struggles to fully incorporate psychological theory and research to address what motivates dance. In particular, the chapter lacked sufficient review of relevant research. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.
  1. There is perhaps too much emphasis on explain dance and dance types and not enough on addressing the specific topic.
  2. General motivational theory is covered and related to dance.
  3. There is little to no research about these theories reported and related to dance.
  4. Some useful links are provided to external resources.
  1. Very little critical review of the most relevant psychology research studies on this topic is presented.
  2. When describing important research studies, provide some indication of the nature of the sample and possibly cultural context.
  3. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  1. The quality of written expression could be improved (e.g., see where clarification templates have been added to the page).
  2. Layout was good.
  3. Some links to Wikipedia and/or Wikiversity articles were added as external links - these should be changed to interwiki links
  4. Spelling could be improved - see the [spelling?] tags
  5. The grammar of some sentences needs to be improved for the written expression to be of professional standard (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags)
  6. References were not in full APA style.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a well styled presentation, but the content about motivation is very general, not clearly applied to dance motivation, and there is lack of review of research.
  1. Lots of theory is covered, but this isn't demonstrably related to dance motivation. Perhaps cover less theory but with more evidence/examples of how it applies to dance motivation.
  2. What does research say about dance motivation?
  3. Check APA style for in-text citations (e.g., no initials).
  1. Audio is clear and well-paced.
  2. Visuals are clear and easy to read.
  3. Use less text on the screen (basically, the whole script is shown, but only the key points need to be shown visually).
  1. Rename the title "Recording #3" so that it is more descriptive and meaningful.
  2. Image attributions?
  3. Link to book chapter?
  4. A copyright license for the presentation is not indicated (e.g., in the description or in the presentation slides).
