Are certain personalities drawn to combat and joining the armed services? perhaps the motivation is different for each type. Maybe something to look at. U116040

What an interesting topic! I'll be keeping an eye on this one as I have family members in the Defence Force. U3048330 (discusscontribs) 09:19, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient chapter.
  2. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.
  1. Abbreviate the description of motivational theories and link to further information (e.g., other Wikiversity chapters and/or Wikipedia articles).
  2. Expand the application of motivational theory to understanding the motivations for joining defence forces.
  1. Use primary, peer-reviewed sources as the primary references, rather than dictionaries, websites etc.
  2. There was little review of research.
  3. Some statements were unreferenced (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  4. When describing important research studies, provide some indication of the nature of the sample and possibly cultural context.
  5. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  1. Written expression
    1. Internationalise: Write for an international, rather than Australian, audience.
    2. Use gender-neutral language (e.g., man-made -> human-made)
  2. See earlier comments about heading casing
  3. Learning features
    1. The chapter makes no use of interwiki links. Add Interwiki links (e.g., to relevant Wikipedia articles and other Wikiversity book chapters) to make the text more interactive.
    2. Some links to Wikiversity articles were added as external links - these should be changed to interwiki links
    3. Quiz questions are used to encourage reader engagement.
  4. Grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar of some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Check and correct the use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs. individuals').
    3. Use abbreviations such as "e.g." inside brackets and "for example" outside brackets.
  5. APA style
    1. Add APA style captions to tables and figures.
    2. Check and correct the APA style for how to report numbers (Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numbers (e.g., 10)).
    3. The reference list is not in full APA style.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a basic presentation which could be improved by including more theoretical and research depth.
  1. Target an international audience (avoid being overly local/national).
  2. Include citations about evidence for claims.
  3. One main theory is used - what other motivational theories might be applicable/relevant?
  4. What is the research evidence about motivations for defence work?
  5. What are the practical, take-home messages?
  1. Audio volume and quality varies somewhat between slides; otherwise audio is reasonably clear.
  2. Audio is slightly too fast to easily comprehend - consider reducing the volume of content and slowing down. See this article for more information about speaking rates.
  3. Serif font is difficult to read (Winston Churchill quote).
  4. Consider using greater intonation to enhance engagement.
  1. Basic, but effective production.
  2. A copyright license for the presentation is not indicated (i.e., in the description or in the presentation slides).
  3. No link is provided back to the book chapter.
