Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a promising chapter which was undermined significantly by not being negotiated before being added. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theory
  2. In the Overview, establish why the relationship between either emotion or motivation and the topic of interest.
  3. Whilst several motivational predictors are considered, there is a lack of overarching theoretical framework.
  4. Case studies were helpful.

Research[edit source]

  1. Research
  2. When describing important research studies, provide some indication of the nature of the sample and possibly cultural context.
  3. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  4. Some statements were unreferenced (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. This topic was added without approval and is somewhat duplicative of related chapters on infidelity. The title and subtitle were adjusted to fit more closely with the book topic criteria (role of emotion in sexual cheating). Unfortunately, skipping the initial step of negotiating a topic has meant that the content and focus of the chapter (sexual cheating) isn't particularly well aligned with the scope of goals of the book (needs greater focus on the role of emotion).
    2. The quality of written expression could be improved (e.g., where clarification templates have been added to the page).
    3. Obtaining (earlier) comments on a chapter plan and/or chapter draft could have helped to improve the chapter.
    4. Avoid directional referencing (e.g., above, below, as previously mentioned)
    5. Avoid starting so many sentences with a source's author or date, unless this is particularly pertinent. Provide the citation at the end of the sentence instead.
    6. Avoid colloquialisms
  2. Layout
    1. No Tables and/or Figures were used.
  3. Learning features
    1. The chapter does not include any additional learning features.
  4. Grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar of some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags)
  5. APA style
    1. The reference list is not in full APA style.
    2. Remove issue numbers for seriated journal references.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient presentation.

Structure and content[edit source]

  1. Contributing factors were discussed, but no particular theory/theories were highlighted as being particularly useful.
  2. Include citations.
  3. Perhaps consider using more illustrative examples.
  4. A Conclusion slide summarising the take-home messages / key points could be helpful.

Communication[edit source]

  1. A basic presentation, consisting of text-based visuals and narrated audio.
  2. Consider using greater intonation to enhance engagement.
  3. Check and correct spelling and grammatical errors.
  4. Some slides are presented without audio explanation.

Production quality[edit source]

  1. The presentation isn't automatically playable online and requires downloading and local playback.
  2. The audio volume is quiet and there is considerable white noise - review microphone set up.
  3. Rename the title so that it includes the subtitle (and matches the book chapter).
  4. Fill out the description field (e.g., brief description of presentation, link back to the book chapter, license details, and possibly include references and image attributions).
  5. A copyright license for the presentation is not indicated (i.e., in the description or in the presentation slides).
  6. No link is provided back to the book chapter.
