Hey!

It might be an idea to include a link in your chapter to the Lifeline website! It has lots of information for people wanting to know more about suicide, and also provides support for people affected by suicide. This is the link: http://www.lifeline.org.au/

Good luck with it!! :) EmmaP (discusscontribs) 18:28, 16 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the great idea. Including a webstite or referring someone to lifeline or beyond blue would definitely be something I'd be including now :) U3065594 (discusscontribs) 04:14, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I was thinking you could put a suicide ideation link in there so people know where they are at (a guide perhaps. This one is very easy to understand. http://www.psy-world.com/ssi Olivia Poscoliero (discusscontribs) 12:02, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Durkheim, E. (1897). On Suicide. New York, USA: Penguin Group M.m.riggs (discuss • contribs) 11:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC) Durkheim (1897) distinguished what you would now call different motivations for suicide and the factors involved with the incidence of suicide. Durkheim (1897) acknowledged individual tendencies, psychopathology and even "alcoholic insanity" or the affect of alcohol consumption on suicide. Moreover, he recognized the social context in which suicide occurred and came to conclude that people were more likely to kill themselves when they were either too detached from society or too enthralled in it. Durkheim (1897) also came to conclude that suicide was prevalent in older men who were suffering disease, widowed women and "clients or servants on the death of their chiefs" (which I would interpret as death of a significant other perhaps).M.m.riggs (discuss • contribs) 11:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC) Note: This book is severely out dated but it is a classic and come concepts are still relevant today. For example, the observation that suicide is prevalent amongst older men or that death of a significant other has great impacts upon the individual. Another point that I didn't mention from Durkheim is he believe there were different types of suicide like altruistic and egotistic. Similarly, the author of "Leaving You: The Cultural Meaning of Suicide' Lisa Lieberman, wrote about the historical and cultural context from which suicide exists and wrote a chapter which she called "defiant death". Thus, she speaks about the use of suicide as a weapon to undermine and challenge authority. Hence, there are some very interesting motivations for suicide according to some of these authors.M.m.riggs (discuss • contribs) 11:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC) Here is a link to a pdf to look at: http://ac.els-cdn.com/B0080427073001346/3-s2.0-B0080427073001346-main.pdf?_tid=2c87a3e4-32ca-11e3-9459-00000aab0f6b&acdnat=1381533146_ac5d44d35112fc6893cf32904c6940bc

Structure and focus

[edit source]

The overall structure looks good - clear, simple, comprehensive and likely to address theory and research marking criteria. My main suggestion is to focus it towards a self-help audience - e.g., someone who need to understand why they themselves might be suicidal or someone they know is suicidal and in both cases, what can be done about it. The Overview and Conclusion sections, at the very least, can be a good way to do this. Next steps would be expand the plan by adding some bullet-points for each section, then moving to a first draft of each section. Let me know if I can do anything else. Thanks James, really appreciate the feed back and definitely will a section looking at why someone with thoughts of suicide may be thinking this way and how to overcome it. U3065594 (discusscontribs) 04:11, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Overall

[edit source]

A very important topic, well done on an informative and applied chapter.

The chapter covered several models which was great to see. There was some evidence of critical analysis which was lovely – continue working on this skill with all models for future improvement

The chapter clearly benefited from some good research and informative statistics, well done. For further improvement, engage further in critical analysis, the critical analysis that did take place was fantastic.

The chapter was generally well written, well done. There were someexpression, grammatical and punctuation issues, a thorough edit before submission can help this.

The learning features were fantastic, good job. I liked the layout, it was an engaging to read and look at. The APA style was solid, good work, just remember to include APA style for figures and doi’s or web addresses for each reference, good jobCourtney.reis (discusscontribs)

Overall

[edit source]

Overall a great effort, well done!

The presentation had good coverage of theory and the self help applications, well done. For future improvement, include more of the research to help further integration with theory.

The presentation made good use of powerpoint, good work. The presentation was well paced, though I might suggest rerecording to a script to avoid the “trip ups”. For future improvement, include some more interactive features such as images or even a case study to help further engage the viewer.

The quality of the presentation was sound, and it made good use of basic powerpoint, well done. The audio quality was sound. Remember to include references. Great effort! Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)
