picture for your topic

[edit source]

Hi, your page looks really good. I added a picture of a flower to the commons that you would be welcome to use

I can't remember if it smelt nice or not!

I know I've had a lot of trouble trying to find relevant pictures to use

suggestions

[edit source]

The information sounds good so far and its an interesting topic. An idea might be to put in some examples so its not just information overload, for instance when you talk about how smell is connected to memory you could give a little anecdote about someone saying 'this smells like a memory' or something, otherwise you could use a case study where victims have had memories triggered by smells similar to when they were attacked which brings up negative feelings etc. something engaging like this would break up the block of info.

Also im not sure how smell and emotion can be used as self help but maybe there is something in the idea of using scents as a way to focus. like there are certain herbs which allow you to focus and calm down etc which could be used to relax and bring about positive emotions. ALso maybe the use of conditioning a smell to relieve anxiety, kind of like a comfort blanket, for instance you could use you favourite perfume every time you are feeling happy for a long time then whenever you are feeling anxious or upset you spray the perfume and the smell becomes comforting and calming.

Some ideas, hope they help :)

Hi Amy, This seems like a very appealing chapter, I think the choice of figures helps break up the text and it becomes easier to read and follow your train of thought. Perhaps adding one or more figures which show the theories in practice could help, or a more 'scientific' figure? As mentioned I think really looking at research and examples of case studies would help give more meat to your work, the descriptions seem great, I think it's just up to now adding examples and critiquing those examples. Also you have mentioned some theories around smell and emotions, but maybe going into these in a little bit more detail may help, for example giving examples of these theories in practice. The theory part of this assignment is where we can justify the focus of the chapter :) U3054791 (discusscontribs) 23:44, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Heading casing

[edit source]
FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Hey, just having a read of your page and I received a tip from James on linking to wikipedia pages; where you have an external link to Addison's disease James suggested changing these to an internal link which looks like this Emotion for example (then it doesn't have the little lock next to it) - just a suggestion. I also have a link to your page on my page when I talk about smell and Memory and emotion :)--3069576 (discuss — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leisamce (talkcontribs) 21:55, 29 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Image captions

[edit source]

Perhaps some more detailed captions for the images could be added, to link them more clearly to the chapter theme? -- Jtneill - Talk - c 11:14, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, great chapter so far! Maybe adding some text boxes around the text would make each section a little easier to tell apart. Also, if you are able to find any more research about mood regulation I think that would be a great addition to your chapter and highly relevant to the theme of the book. I added some more to that paragraph for you and an additional reference. I really liked the smelling emotions section; very interesting and applicable to the book. I have linked your chapter from my page as I thought that they were quite related to one another (mine is nature and emotion). Perhaps linking your page to some other applicable chapters from this years book would add to your chapter. Check out mine for some ideas. Hope that helps :)

Hi there, i think this chapter is very interesting! Throughout my life i have had a lot of experiences where i have come across a certain smell during my day and it has reminded me of something in my past, thus causing emotion. Even all the way back to when i was at childcare! Looking forward to reading your chapter when it is done!contribs)

References

[edit source]

Hi, I just added the code you need to make your references indented. Now you can just add the rest to the middle of it. Goodluck!

Hi, Your chapter is looking great so far, I really like the pictures and the section on how smell can improve your life as its very fitting with the overall theme of the book. As people have stated above, it seems that your Wikipedia links are coming through as external rather than internal, this was happening on mine until I finally got it to work. E.G. Dysosmia you can copy this and just add in the words for each of you links and it should come across without the annoying little padlock. Best of luck, I look forward to reading your finished product :) Kelseyv23 (discusscontribs) 01:59, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Your chapter looks really good. I think that maybe you could have a bit more information about the different types of smells etc. Other than that, it looks great. Love the pictures and the quiz. Blue Tardis (discusscontribs) 07:57, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is a very well written chapter - great job!

Theories are well chosen and explained in a thorough yet concise manner. A good understanding of the content is demonstrated. To improve further, incorporate some critical evaluation of the theories e.g. are there flaws in the foundations of the theories? How practical are they? Should they be revised based on current knowledge?

Research is well incorporated into the chapter. Well done for presenting current and interesting research in relation to the theories presented. Once again, I would encourage greater critical analysis of the literature. Also, try to explore important studies in a little more detail to give the work more 'light and shade'.

The style of writing used was well suited to an intelligent layperson. Structure and layout were both well done. To improve further, include some more wiki links within the text. ShaunaB (discusscontribs)

A really nice presentation, which includes a succinct yet thorough review of chapter content. Nicely done!

The structure of this presentation is well designed, with a logical flow between concepts being demonstrated. Theory and research are well integrated, along with practical applications. This is a great summary of the chapter content.

Information is communicated nicely, through clear speech and interesting visuals. Well done for including some practical examples throughout!

There are one or two 'pops' throughout the presentation, but sound quality is generally good. The use of Prezi made this presentation particularly engaging and professional. ShaunaB (discusscontribs)
