Hi, I'm writing the page on emotional Intelligence. I have some reference material on children. Let me know if you'd like me to steer you towards this stuff. Cheers,Ray U112052 06:42, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have some information about school intervention programs promoting EI, they often fall under the general term, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. They are used in prevention programs, applied to conflict resolution strategies and used to promote cultural awareness. This information comes from the 'Oxford Handbook of Positive Psychology', I hope its helpful, please let me know if you would like some more info. Regards, Susann 10.30am 29 October 2011 (UTC).

Hi Paton - a really interesting topic and well presented - well done - Magnolia

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall comments
    1. This chapter presents unique and highly interesting theory and research on the emotional intelligence of children through the developmental stages. However, it stops short in providing a self-help application and would benefit from more rigorous proof reading.
  1. Theory comments
    1. A definition of emotional intelligence would help set up the chapter.
    2. Developmental theories of emotion are well-integrated with research.
    3. While the research/theory on emotion and emotion regulation is beautifully presented and discussed, there is no mention of the main players in emotional intelligence (e.g., Mayer, Salovey, Goleman, Bar-On).
  1. Research comments
    1. The summary of key findings at the end of each section is a great feature, highlighting the important points from the research discussion.
    2. How can parents and teachers assist with the emotional development of children? This is touched on in text where early attachment to the mother, the school environment and conversations with family members is said to assist development, however, this discussion needs more emphasis. An overall summary emphasising the main self-help aspects of the topic would be helpful.
  1. Written expression comments
    1. The chapter was highly engaging with logical progression between ideas and integration of theory with research.
    2. There were a large number of textual errors. Proof reading would assist in identifying these (e.g., “weather in the playground or the class room”; “of o child”; “sel-regulate”, “phibias”; “emotionally security”; “more effectively than the other so.”; “between in the types of facial expressions” etc.).
    3. Note that in APA style, numbers under 10 and that is (where it appears in text) should be expressed in words.
    4. The images are perfect for the topic and choice of caption text is very effective.
    5. Note that ampersand should only be used in brackets (e.g., Peterson & Slaughter).

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a minimalistic, basic narrated audio with screen-recording of book chapter text.
  1. Structure and content is a very direct summary/reading of the chapter.
  1. Slow down and focus on less content.
  2. Use some more useful/interesting visuals.
  1. Audio is clear.
  2. Visual is almost useless (too small).
