Hey Dani!! Great page. Youve not only covered the topic in depth but each sub topic as well. Great work! Is there any studies on cognitive dissonance you could include?   1. Overall, This is a solid, neat chapter. It addresses a clearly defined, self-help issue and relates it well to motivation, but also emotion. It is easy to read, uses examples and includes some useful learning features, including images, diagrams and a quiz. The main areas for improvement could be grammar (over-use of semi-colons) and referencing of primary sources (overly heavy reliance on Reeve (2009).
  1. Theory behind cognitive dissonance is well covered, including work of several theorists including Festinger.
  2. Heavy citation of textbook (e.g., 1st paragraph) rather than peer-reviewed, primary sources
  1. Research about cognitive dissonance and motivation is reviewed effectively, with several key studies highlighted.
  2. Were older primary sources (e.g., 1956) consulted - or should these be secondary citations?
  3. When describing important research findings, try to indicate the size of effects rather than simply whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  1. Written expression
    1. The chapter exhibited a disciplined focus on an underlying question motivational self-help question and retained this throughout.
    2. Some talk page comments appear to have helped to develop the chapter.
    3. Paragraphs were generally an appropriate length.
    4. The summary should probably be written in paragraph style. Having said this, these bullet-points do provide an effective summary of the take-home points in the chapter - perhaps top and tail the points with a regular sentence or two.
  2. Learning features
    1. The quiz questions and presentation were excellent.
    2. Wiki-links: Greater use of interwiki linking is recommended.
    3. No external links section was provided.
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. Overuse of semi-colons where commas should be used instead
  4. APA style
    1. Generally, this is good, although the reference list needs further editing to be in full APA style.
    2. When there are three or more authors, subsequent citations should use et al. e.g., Smith, Bush and Western (2001) and then in the next paragraph cite Smith et al. (2001).
    3. et al -> et al.
    4. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.

  1. Overall, this is a first-class presentation. It does all the key aspects of the exercise really well.
  1. Well organised and paced.
  2. Clever structure, with think-spots, leading to clear take-home messages
  3. An excellent, basic understanding of the motivational power of dissonance is presented
  4. Bike riding example worked well
  5. Your own example idea worked well - perhaps needs more time to let someone think of an example - and/or perhaps give several examples up front
  1. Voice and visuals are clear and well-paced.
  2. Clear text on slides
  3. Clear audio
  4. Perhaps pause a little more between slides
  5. Think spots were very effective
  1. Effective, simple, large text, high contrast slides
  2. Background images worked well
  3. Fantastic to see source of images as Wiki Commons
