Hey Rednoodles, Yea im having problems uploading pics lol... but on the other hand, I got some interesting stuff on sport competitiveness and testosterone (physiologically important for competition). Great amount of research in relation to men ;)Lucas K1 10:34, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey! Really like the video and layout of your page! the coloured boxes are a great idea! Tashc 08:38, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

How can I remove the word template from my page? They are there and I'm not sure how to remove it I put it there by mistake.Rednoodles 05:02, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, I have removed those for you - I hope you don't mind. You had just mis-spelt some of the commands and also put one too many in. The chapter is looking good! ShaunaB 06:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey Your page is looking really good so far and sounds like an interesting topic, maybe you could add in some tips on how to feel more competitive if your the competition aviodance type like you mentioned :) Kayla 01:39, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey thanks that's a great idea I'll definitely have a poke around the literature and find something thanks for the suggestion Rednoodles 01:42, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I just read through your page, it's looking great! All of your information is really well written and well referenced. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, in the table where you show competitiveness, you have headings of 'Col.1, Col.2 & Col.3', i don't really understand the headings, is there another way you could set up the table or have different headings? Also in the same section, the pictures with one word under them don't really seem to fit there either. Is there a specific reason for the pictures or can they be spaced out throughout the page with further explanation as to why they are there? Are you able to find a quiz or questionnaire that can determine how competitive an individual is? I personally hate losing when i play sport so it would be interesting to see if i am considered overly competitive or not. =] I am jealous you have found so many photo's and pictures for your page! I am struggling to even know where to look to find the appropriate photos. Good luck with the finishing touches! Ashleetronerud 1:20pm, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a solid, basic chapter on the topic of competitiveness and motivation.
  1. Much of the early content is very general in nature (e.g., Evidence of competitiveness) and lacks demonstration of reading of key peer-reviewed psychology theory and research literature e.g., What is the relevance of animal competition to the central topic/question?
  2. (Overly) heavy reliance on Ryckman et al., 1997
  3. As the chapter progresses, a more detailed, nuanced understanding emerges of the role of competition in motivation, with a focus (justifiably) on the effects of competitiveness on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. This is an important theoretical perspective and it forms essentially the main theoretical framework for the chapter.
  1. The chapter provides a limited research review. Research findings aren't reported in any particular detail and the range of referencing is limited.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the chapter content was reasonably developed, but the written expression was somewhat unpolished - see the copyedits for some suggestions.
    2. The chapter could have benefited from a more developed Introduction or Overview, with clear focus questions relating to the self-help book theme and motivation or emotion.
    3. Gathering comments on a chapter plan and/or chapter draft could have helped to improve the chapter development.
  2. Learning features
    1. Minimal, but sufficient additional learning features evident.
    2. Wiki links such as Motivation could be added into the text.
    3. Little was provided in terms of case study or practical examples.
    4. Image captions were minimalistic or not provided.
    5. Image gallery may work better as separate images with detailed captions. Ideally these would focus on the self-help orientation of the book. How can competition be used effectively to motivate? And what are the risks (e.g., risk of extrinsic rather than intrinsic motivation?)
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. This aspect can be improved.
    2. Several sentences were grammatically incomplete.
    3. Punctuation needs more proofreading/copyediting.
    4. Check grammar for using singular (e.g., individual) and plural (e.g., they) in the same sentence - stick with one or the other.
  4. APA style
    1. In-text citations are generally well-used; note
      1. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
      2. et al -> et al.
      3. In-text citations should be in alphabetical order
    2. For full APA style for reference list, the following improvements are needed:
      1. Correct capitalisation
      2. Correct italicisation
      3. Incomplete publication details for books
      4. Check how to present page numbers

A very interesting topic that has great potential to be expanded for another paper to be published - really well done - Magnolia28

Overall

[edit source]
  1. Overall, this is a solid, interesting presentation.
  1. The structure could be improved by taking less time over the examples (there are some very long pauses that break the flow).
  2. The info content was sound.
  3. Some more practical examples could be offered.
  4. Some examples of research studies could be added.
  5. Coverage of positive and negative aspects was balanced (excellent)
  1. Communication was moderately effective. Pauses in the audio were long. Some of this could be to do with AuthorStream auto-pause between slides, but other pauses seem to have been created in production somewhere. Closer checking and re-recording if needed would be ideal.
  2. Slides were creative in use of text and picture.
  3. Voice was clear.
  1. Production quality
  2. Excellent use of Wiki Commons images and acknolwedgement.
  3. Thanks for releasing your work under a Creative Commons license.
