Provide some help in running these examples

It will be helpful to provide some introductory information or instruction that helps students compile and run these examples. Perhaps an associated course on "Building and running C programs" exists or can be provided and referenced here. Referring students to that introductory course will allow them to make better progress. Also, including some usage notes, perhaps as introductory comments in the source code, will be helpful.
