Content summary[edit | edit source]
It is necessary to know how much resistance a ship faces in water, at a given speed, to decide the power of the engine to install on the ship. This course will help you understand the causes of ship resistance, and how the resistance of a ship is calculated from model tests. It will also help you understand how shallow water affects the resistance of a ship.
Goals[edit | edit source]
By the end of this course, you should be able to
- know what is meant by ship resistance
- the different components of resistance
- know to predict the resistance of the ship from model tests
- know the effect of shallow water on resistance
