[edit | edit source]Below is the content of this page before Saltrabook (talk • email • contribs • stats • logs • global account) removed it and requested deletion in 2018. The IMHA Research Archives page was subsequently deleted by Marshallsumter (talk • email • contribs • stats • logs • global account) in 2019, but the sub-pages remained. Saltrabook gave this reason: "the content has been moved to other pages please erase" (e.g., see Maritime Health Research and Education-NET). This content is provided here temporarily to help decide about the sub-pages. |

"Know it- share it"
[edit | edit source]The aim is to collect, store and share learning materials from maritime health meetings and conferences to be used for learning and research to support the IMHA motto : "Know it and share it". We hope that these archives can contribute to the production of "more and better research". The benefit is that those who cannot attend the meetings can follow the development and be updated. Further, those who want to study a specific subject may search and find older abstracts that were never published elsewhere and build new research based on these findings and hypotheses. And as we suppose that many conference abstracts are never used for further research, they can still be very useful in this way. It is also an advantage, that all can easily learn how to edit and add new materials in the Wiki system. In order to search the specific abstracts and ppts, a search and find functions should be established, however this is rather time consuming and so this is just a wish for now. To store the files in external hard disks as an extra security is a pending task. Continuing education, learning, is a core issue for all maritime health professionals in clinical practice, telemedicine, research, teaching and all types of prevention activities. Continuing education come from all types of health preventive practice, including the clinical practice, guidelines, teaching, attendig conferences, scientific articles own research as in the sections below. The modules can be either by self-learning or by part of a course and should be developed according to target groups specific competences and needs. Surveys about the needs could be relevant to perform before designing the specific learning modules. Lets remember one of the sentences in the Hippocratic Oaths: "That I will recognize the limits of my knowledge and pursue lifelong learning to better care for the sick and to prevent illness"
Learning by reading and discuss scientific articles
[edit | edit source]
Health professionals like all other professionals are "standing on the shoulders of giants" - an equivalent to the contemporary "evidence based medicine". The use of original scientific litterature is indispensable in research, teaching and preventive practice in maritime health. Our aim is to inspire and to help maritime health professionals to search and use relevant scientific knowledge for the clinical practice, teaching and research. One important step for clinical professionals for learning is to arrange group meetings to read and comment selected scientific articles every week or month or .. click and go to the page: Scientific litterature search, storage and use
Learning by creating new knowledge
[edit | edit source]Training is needed to do research (to create new scientific knowledge) but research training is also needed to use the scientific literature in the daily clinical practice.... Click and go to page here
Scientific goals
[edit | edit source]The aim is to produce new knowledge of high credibility based on the newest globally accepted scientific principles for good conduct of studies and quality of the publications. To this end we recommend to use The Equator-network with the recommendations for different types of studies. Our goal is not only to perform the surveys but also to produce scientific articles and to inspire younger scientist to enter our group an be trained in these principles of research. So our honest secondary goal is to inspire and educate younger scientists in spe on how to do high-quality research and publications.
Learning from clinical case stories
[edit | edit source]Case reports comprise a time-honored tradition firmly established within the medical literature. Writing a clinical case-story is often the first step for the young medical student and may be the first step towards a life-long scientific carrier. The clinical case-stories represent a growing importance of valuable clinical medical information in our modern information-flowing times. Over tens of years a body of published literature on how and when to write a case report has been published. However for the fist time in the medical history comes the CARE guidelines provide a framework to support the need for completeness, transparency and data analysis in case reports and data from the point of care. The acronym CARE was created from CA— the first two letters in case and RE—the first two letters in reports. The equator-network CLINICAL CASE REPORTING
