Assistant teacher course/Didactics and mathetics
Didactics and mathetics
[edit | edit source]The goal of this course phase is to give the participants a basic understanding what didactics and mathetics mean and to let them know where they can look for more information. As usual, the participants should first try to describe what they imagine as the "science of teaching" and the "science of learning" themselves.

Didactics
[edit | edit source]Didactics can be seen as the heart of pedagogy, the theory of teaching.
Can you devise your own concepts for a theory of teaching?
- What is teaching?
- How should a teacher present knowledge to his pupils?
- How should a teacher not present knowledge to his pupils?
- What does a teacher need to know about the pupils?
- How can a teacher promote understanding?
- What is the meaning of scientific discovery for understanding?
- What makes education interesting and what can make it more interesting?
An interesting observation should be to what degree the participants already have reflected on knowledge they received in the course and on the purpose of the course.

Mathetics
[edit | edit source]Mathetics is the theory of learning.
Can you devise your own concepts for a theory of learning?
- How does the process of learning work?
- How can the process of learning fail?
- How should a learner approach learning?
- What does the learner need to know about a field of study?
- What does the learner need to know about himself?
- What relations do exist between learning and emotions?
- What relations do exist between learning and volition?
