Unblocks of most TEAM VOLLEYBALL contributors[edit source]

Near the beginning of 2015 an IP began creating tables here on Wikiversity in resource space of sports scores. Some of these apparent users were blocked here and on other wikimedia projects. More of the details can be found at Dominant group/Wikiversity.

After more than a year of analysis, I propose that the following TEAM VOLLEYBALL users AdmerOFVolleyball, Agahama, Azylicure 2, Hasfie, JESAAS11, JESSARICAN2, and Lahha 33, be unblocked and allowed to again contribute to Wikiversity.

The percentage of apparent facts (1597/1610) = 99.19 % supports the hypotheses:

  1. These are all registered users at Wikiversity making good-faith edits to perform volleyball history research as their Philippines National High School Rose Mapeh project for a grade.
  2. The sole source of the contention on Wikiversity regarding the uploads for the high school student Rose Mapeh project to record volleyball history research was the lack of communication from the high school Rose Mapeh Advisor Mr. Jose Glonar Armamento that his students had chosen Wikiversity to host their project.

There are multiple issues with this proposal, but to start with:

  1. This discussion needs to be a Wikiversity:Community Review rather than a discussion in the Colloquium.
  2. The users are blocked per meta:steward CheckUser request.
  3. The review of "apparent facts" appears to be a misuse of Custodian rights, as it includes analysis of deleted pages, an analysis neither requested or agreed to by the community.
  4. Whether or not this was a school project isn't relevant to the reason the user accounts were blocked across multiple wiki projects.
  5. The source of contention was hundreds of disruptive edits, created by a user or users who failed to respond to literally dozens of attempts by multiple custodians and other users over a period of months to help them work productively at Wikiversity.
  6. There is no definition of consensus that allows a custodian to state ahead of time that any given number or percentage of users must oppose a proposal, and anyone this invested in the effort would have great difficulty in showing that they are capable of impartial treatment in the matter. The determination of consensus and response must be left to an uninvolved custodian or bureaucrat.
  7. There is no request from any of the blocked users to unblock their accounts. Absent a request from one or more of the users involved, there is no benefit for the community to invest time and effort in this review.

Without objections from any uninvolved bureaucrats, custodians, curators, or users, all of the students mentioned for unblock are now unblocked for each or any of the following reasons.
  1. Analysis shows user was not a sock puppet.
  2. Analysis shows user was not abusing multiple accounts.

A Wikiversity:Community Review has been created to determine community consensus regarding issues related to the Sport/Volleyball learning project, and the actions of User:Dave Braunschweig and User:Marshallsumter in regard to this project and these users. Issues include:

What got MrABlair123 so many students?[edit source]

You may have noticed... I've been working on the Human Legacy Course in the past few days, and I've also been fishing around in mathematics. I'm asking, how did Mr. Blair get so many students to join his course? If anyone knows the answer, please do tell.. We are having a problem with attackers taking over wiki accounts with privileged user rights (for example, admins, bureaucrats, oversighters, checkusers). It appears that this may be because of weak or reused passwords.

Magic Links Deprecated[edit source]

Magic links have been deprecated in favor of templates such as {{ISBN}}. Pages that were using ISBN magic links have been updated to use the ISBN template instead. One of the advantages of this approach is that the template identifies pages with ISBN errors. Wikidebates for all[edit source]

@Koavf, KATMAKROFAN, Michael Ten, and Dave Braunschweig: Hi! I'd like to add the initialization code for the Wikidebate project to MediaWiki:Common.js. The Wikidebate project is slowly growing, but its greatest current limitation is that the script for calculating the status of the arguments in the debates only runs for users that enable the Wikidebate gadget or click on the link provided on each wikidebate. Many users will never see the link or click it, and will thus miss the opportunity to understand the nature of the project, and even if they do click it, they will have to do it again on each wikidebate they visit, which is annoying. The initialization code I want to add to MediaWiki:Common.js can be found here. As you can see, there are two checks in place to ensure the full script is only requested when necessary, so the load on the servers is minimal. Is it possible to add a "Math" icon onto the advanced toolbar?[edit source]

As we have an icon for big, so when you highlight a word, and click the icon for increasing the size of a text (A+), you will be able to increase the size easily without manually typing <big></big>. It's irritating to have to manually add <math> and </math> to each and every number. Is there a possibility that we can implement a math icon on the advanced toolbar in editing, so that I can highlight a number and click that math icon without having to manually add <math> and </math>? RevisionSlider[edit source]

The mw:Extension:RevisionSlider is now available under Special:Preferences. The slider allows quick comparisons of page edit history going back for up to 50 edits. It is only visible when comparing pages diffs.
