Community panel about the Universal Code of Conduct on 18 February 2022
[edit source]There is a comprehensive update at m:Special:MyLanguage/Universal Code of Conduct/Enforcement guidelines/Voting/Announcement: in additional to the information shared above, a community panel on 18 February 2022 at 15:00 UTC will share perspectives from small- and medium-sized community participants. Two categories for the same topic?
[edit source]I am just wondering why the categories:
both exist and which one should be chosen to house Optimal public health? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (discuss • contribs) 16:43, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
- Nice find, O. Clearly, we should not have redundant categories like this. Looking at Wikiversity:Categories, Wikiversity:Course titles, Wikiversity:Network naming conventions, Wikiversity:Naming conventions, Wikiversity:Manual of Style, Wikiversity:Namespaces#Category:, and finally Wikiversity:FAQ/Categorization, the only guidance we have is at the final page which reads, "Capitalisation of category names should follow naming conventions for word casing." So all that is to say, it looks like what we've said in the past is: "Courses can be named with Title-Style Casing or Sentence-style casing, but just make sure that you are consistent within the subpages of a given course, also be consistent with categories and their subcategories for that course", but that results in things like "Category:Public health" for the general concept and "Category:Public Health" for a specific course. Which is a mess. We would need to have a systemic change here. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 17:15, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
- I think Justin's interpretation is correct. All of this content should be in Category:Public health. A specific course titled Public Health could use Category:Public Health if the course author desired. I'll move all of the current Category:Public Health into Category:Public health. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 15:40, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

[edit source]There is now a gadget available to implement dark mode. See Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Dark mode (gadget) for details. If you want to see the gadget enabled at Wikiversity, indicate your preference below. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 00:35, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit source]Vote
[edit source]- Weak support If someone wants to use it, go for it. I don't really see the value for myself, but I don't think that should impede anyone else, especially if it's low-cost to port it here. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 01:03, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support - it is optional. i use dark mode widget/gadget on wikipedia and i like it a lot. limitless peace. Michael Ten (discuss • contribs) 18:36, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support - no reason to oppose. I would like for this to be implemented here. —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 18:48, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Outcome
[edit source]There is weak support and no opposition. @DannyS712, Evolution and evolvability, and Koavf: Would one of you be interested in interface administrator rights to add the gadget for us? -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 01:45, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Dave Braunschweig sure, I can bring it over. Technically, as a GS I can already edit sitewide JS files, but since I'm a member of the community and helped draft the interface admin policy I don't feel comfortable using my GS access to do this. So if you want to grant me rights for a few days, I can add it as a gadget (not enabled by default). DannyS712 (discuss • contribs) 02:17, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- @DannyS712 Granted. Thanks! -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 02:43, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Dave Braunschweig Done - imported the relevant pages (using import for attribution) and confirmed that the gadget is working. If there are no issues in the next few days I'll remove the interface admin rights (or they'll just expire if I forget). Let me know if I missed anything. --DannyS712 (discuss • contribs) 03:01, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- @DannyS712 I tested it. It works for me. Thanks!
Note to others, if you enable the gadget, you still need to select Dark Mode (or Light Mode) at the top of a page to switch back and forth. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 03:15, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
