Thinking about getting into video game coding? Perhaps you aren't sure, so if that is the reality, consider a few things:

  • Do you enjoy coding and using computers in a way that is more advanced than the home use of a computer?
  • Do you enjoy video games?
  • Do you want to help create something that will be enjoyed by many people?

If at least one of these is a "yes", video game coding may be the profession for you. Now, some things you should be proficient with, and how to gain experience. These are the first things you should do:

  1. Get a simple coding program that is free, usually off of the internet, and play around with it until you understand the concepts and are ready to continue.
  2. Read as many articles about coding as you can, online or otherwise, so that you may learn from those who are good at what they do.
  3. Play video games! Try to identify the different coding techniques hidden within the game as you play, using the knowledge gained from steps 1 and 2 above, and maybe also take in all the different aspects of the video game as well so you can function withing the video game industry.
  4. Apply for the jobs you want. Then start working. With your newfound coding knowledge, you will be programming hit games in no time!

Technology is progressing, developing, and improving faster today than at any time in history. Working with technology can be fulfilling and sometimes can change the world. Just get a good education, whilst having a good attitude, and you may wield this ability with grace and precision.
