Creating a social media strategy[edit | edit source]

Creating a social media strategy is very important. First, it lets all the stakeholders understand what using social media hopes to accomplish, and who is responsible for implementing a social media strategy. Second, it builds in accountability if something goes wrong. Third, it helps establish benchmarks to measure success.

There are three important steps in creating a social media strategy. They are:

  1. Define the purpose of using social media, how this aligns with institutional objectives, and who will be in charge of implementing the strategy;
  2. Identify the group that you will be marketing to on social media; and
  3. Determine where your market is located online.
