Active Resource?[edit source]

Posting and creating the discussion page here. Just wandering in to see if this resource is still active. I'm interested in the topic and doing some work of my own in the area. Best --Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 21:19, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivangiesen: It is a popular resource, but it is not being actively maintained. Be bold. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 00:30, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Subpages[edit source]

Is there a format I should follow to add a subpage within this wiki, eg using a "/" between the main page title and the new subpage title?--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 22:30, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivangiesen: See Wikiversity:Naming conventions. Since this title is Sentence case, subpages should also be /Sentence case. Unless you plan significant changes and want to rename it now before creating a bunch of subpages that you prefer to be /Title Case. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 02:49, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Including Rainwater Harvesting for Residential and Commercial Situations[edit source]

Hi everyone, I'm very interested in the work that already exists here, and there's a lot of good stuff. However, I think that making the content slightly more expansive and general can enhance the quality of the work and make it more accessible for users looking to learn and potential design a rainwater harvesting system on their own. I really think just as designing systems for residential and domestic buildings is critical in addressing water insecurity and a host of issues deeply connected with that, it is important to address rainwater harvesting for larger institutions where although the system may be of greater complexity, the benefit would be proportionally greater as well.

Maybe I'm coming at this too much from a systems engineering perspective, but I think that slightly more of a top-down hierarchy of systems and classification would categorize the material here with more precision. For example, having a page that is "Rainwater Harvesting Systems", that includes characteristics of systems common to RW rooftop harvesting, in-situ harvesting, etc. would be valuable. Any thoughts on either of these issues?--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 16:23, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivangiesen: This is a very popular resource on Wikiversity, but hasn't had much editing since the original efforts. I can't speak for this project. It's not my area of expertise. What I can say is that there tend to be two types of editors at Wikiversity, those with grand organization ideas who don't add detail and those with specific detail interests who don't see the overall organization. These are, of course, generalizations. If you have vision and determination, go for it! But please don't make a large structure change unless you also provide detail along the way. Similarity to Akvopedia[edit source]

Not to be a bummer, but whoever made this website, worked nearly entirely off of the akvopedia article that goes by the same name. I think that fundamentally, rainwater harvesting as a concept is much more diverse and complex in terms of the physical types of systems and in terms of the economic, social and geographic contexts. I think the material deserves a major re-vamp overall. Thoughts?--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 17:33, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Respecting Wikipedia Distinctions on Rainwater and Stormwater[edit source]

I think that this page and many other pages on the water portal could be better focuses, if the primary differences between rainwater (Rain that has impacted upon a surface and whose composition has been modified by surface flow, diversion and storage processes onsite) and stormwater (precipitation from rain and snowmelt events, which flows offsite over land (both impervious and pervious) were respected and noted so as to reduce overall confusion as where to find what kind of information. --Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 14:49, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivangiesen: It sounds like you understand the subject well enough to improve on it. Be bold! -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 02:57, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization through Size or Complexity of Systems[edit source]

I think what I'll do is implement a system whereby rainwater harvesting systems are categorized by large and small systems and by the complexity or the geography of the place where the system is installed. More thoughts will come later.--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 21:31, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Simplified Table Scheme[edit source]

When I reorganized some of the content and was trying to manipulate the existing table, I realized that the format was difficult for me to interpret and understand. I added in my own wikipedia styled table (very boring I know), but if anybody wants to format it nicer, be my guest! --Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 12:35, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tank Sizing Calculator Section?[edit source]

I know that a number of tank sizing calculators exist to serve people in different regions and for different purposes. However I think it would be awesome if a section could be added on sizing calculator with the equations and coefficients included. I don't if it's possible to simply copy paste an equation over (copyrights?) but maybe we could crowdsource one of our own. Thoughts?--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 12:49, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
