Thanks for this - what seems to be a pretty hefty work in progress. :-) I appreciate your observations - though I am particularly looking forward to your own reflections. The profiles idea could be interesting - especially in the context of the observation: "I truly believe that the root of conflict centered around McCormack, JWSchmidt, and myself, is that we have different ideas of what Wikiversity should be, and we are all fighting in different ways to turn the Project into our Wikiversity." It seems like you're trying to make a study of people's overall intentions for Wikiversity, in order to inform an understanding of why and how these intentions come into conflict. I wonder if this should involve the other two (for example, in a discussion/interview), or are you going to be constructing this study on the basis of what you can find around Wikiversity? I've already sent both of them invitations to discuss what I've posted here; I intend for this to be my reflection and observation, but I'm very interested in giving them a chance to flesh out what I've put here (as observers), and provide alternate viewpoints. While starting on this page, the thought came to me that all three of us are not trying to conflict with eachother, we are simply trying to "defend" what we think of Wikiversity, and we're willing to use different tools in that defense. That's an interesting observation - particularly that you (and many others) use the image of "defence" in relation to developing areas of Wikiversity that are close to your heart. It's clear that people will defend a project that they spend much time on (ie Wikipedia, Wikiversity), but I've always wondered if there's something particular about education that adds an extra dimension to this fervour (if you'll pardon the strength of my language)? There probably is - though to what extent is another question. In any case, this was always going to be one of the challenges that Wikiversity faces - to incorporate different (often divergent) views on education, and somehow reflect them appropriately in the creation of a complex, scholarly project. Sometimes it's been appropriate to develop different resources (and even policies) that reflect different ideologies; sometimes it's been more appropriate to find a consensus by working in the same space. Both models have their benefits and limitations. I'd also like to explore this further. :-) Cormaggio ^talk 10:52, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
