I think important subjects like Education should be addressed by Wikiversity, and while we should leverage resources and external help we should be fostering an environment of building. This was a stub that motivated me to add a (bit) to it; it definitely needs more fleshing out. I don't see anything wrong with a bunch of construction equipment hanging around, and a large part of WV being under construction. We need to annoy someone enough for them to say "Well, _I_ know more than that, or at least I can say it in a better way". Historybuff (discusscontribs) 15:23, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

No one has been annoyed enough in eight years to add the value you speak of. Will you be adding it? If so, please do. If not, from my perspective the Wikipedia article provides more educational value for readers than the content currently included. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 02:11, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
The problem with low-use wikis like WV is that they develop in fits and starts; people get interested, then bored, then have a lot of time, then have no time. You never know when the person who has knowledge is going to stumble over something exciting, or annoying, or that needs to be made better. It could be a year ago, tomorrow, a decade from now or never.
When I first got to Wikiversity many moons ago, it bothered me because it offended my sense of structure and organisation. Some people had launched grand plans and built parts of a great learning resource, and then got sucked into another dimension and didn't finish them. The really great thing is there is no one looking over our shoulder, making sure our wiki is the most efficient and using the least amount of disk space for learning resources as possible.
As far as this resource goes, it was _me_ that got annoyed, and then fell off the wiki-wagon before I really got much done. Adult Education is one of my passions. Unlike the last time I was here, I'm going to editing as I can, when I can, and things will take as long as they take. There isn't an incoming class or a deadline to be done, and indeed some things might never get all the way done.
I did include the WP link into the resource, because it's not a bad article ... but I really feel that wikiversity's mission should be to promote and host content, not just be a link farm for WP. Historybuff (discusscontribs) 05:20, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't disagree with you on either general approach or adult education in particular. But I would like to see content at Wikiversity add educational value beyond what is available on other projects. Too many pages were created in the 2007-2008 era with the idea that if it was started, someone would come along and build on it. The ensuing seven years have shown people are not drawn to Wikiversity that way. They have very specific interests and add great detail to those interests. The rest sits idle, offering little value to anyone except the experience gained by the original author. I look forward to your contributions on this subject. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 15:12, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I won't disagree that things haven't worked out as I would have hoped years back; but there was lots of drama and disputes which went on, and that had the effect of sucking lots of oxygen out of the room. With it, went lots of both learners and editors. So, I'm not sure if people are or aren't drawn to WV in that way.
As part of my exposure to WikiMedia, I had to attend a conference which left me with a great slogan: Don't let perfect get in the way of good. The whole concept of a wiki isn't to get perfection; it's to get started, and contribute what you can, and let someone else contribute what they can. Without something saying "here's a start", some people won't BE BOLD and try to improve with what they know. I know, when I first started, I certainly wouldn't have.
