1897 July 2, Friday, the Earl and Lady Suffolk as well as Daisy (Marguerite Hyde) Leiter attended the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball at Devonshire House.

1904 December 26, Henry Molyneux Paget Howard, 19th Earl of Suffolk and Daisy (Marguerite Hyde) Leiter married.[4]

At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball Henry Charles Howard, 18th Earl of Suffolk (at 203) sat at Table 11, escorting Lady Rothschild in to the first supper seating. Lady Mary Suffolk (at 538) also attended:

  • "the Countess of Suffolk wore the garb of a former countess, who lived in 1766."[5]

The Countess of Suffolk in 1766 was Maria Constantia Hampden-Trevor, Countess of Suffolk (1743 – 8 February 1767).[6]

Daisy Leiter[edit | edit source]

Daisy Leiter (at 684), who would marry Henry Molyneux Paget Howard, 19th Earl of Suffolk later, in 1904, also attended.

John Thomson's portrait of "Marguerite Hyde ('Daisy', née Leiter), Countess of Suffolk when Miss Leiter" in costume is photogravure #231 in the album presented to the Duchess of Devonshire and now in the National Portrait Gallery.[7] The printing on the portrait says, "Miss Leiter," with a Long S in Miss.[8]

Daisy Leiter was not mentioned in any press reports, but her portrait is in the commemorative album of portraits.
