Questions and Notes
[edit | edit source]- A Mr. Brodrick and a Lady H. Brodrick attended at least one of the social events hosted by the Prince and Princess of Wales in the years before the Duchess of Devonshire's ball. These seem likely to be St. John Brodrick and Lady Hilda Brodrick. Numerous examples make it clear that, because he was a Member of Parliament, he was called Mr. Brodrick in the press.
- The other Brodrick attending events was The Hon. Miss Brodrick with the Viscount and Viscountess Midleton.
- For the Hon. Miss Brodrick, who attended an event with the Viscount and Viscountess of Midleton, all the daughters of the 8th Viscount married except Hon. Evelyn Harriet Brodrick and Hon. Albina Lucy Brodrick, but, depending on the date of the event, it could have been one of the other daughters before she married.
- William Brodrick, 8th Viscount was partially blind and deaf because his parents were first cousins, according to son William St. John Freemantle Brodrick.[6]
- Madeline Cecilia Carlyle Stanley also attended the ball, but she was not married to St. John Brodrick until 1903, so she is treated on the Stanley page.
