Notes and Questions
[edit | edit source]- Evelyn, Earl Cromer is not reported to have been at the ball. By October 1898, they had returned to Cairo after being in England, because "his presence in Cairo was deemed very important for reasons of State," and she went, "well knowing the seriousness of her condition, which no medical skill could any longer alleviate."[17]
