School vs. Topic

[edit source]

Why is this a separate school rather than a topic under School:Medicine? -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 23:57, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

The short answer: because it is intended to be as different from the School:Medicine as the School:Alternative_Medicine is.
The longer answer: the existing article about mouches volantes actually is not a good example of what content can be expected here. It was a starting point for me and part of its content may have to be moved to a more appropriate place later. The main objective here is to facilitate finding cross-links between different pieces of information on medical subjects. Thus there is no room for detailed descriptions of symptoms, biology, chemistry of medical substances and such. These are to be added to the school of medicine and only linked from within here.

According to Wikipedia: Integrative medicine, integrative medicine combines alternative medicine and evidence-based medicine. To me, that means:
  • The correct name for this is integrative medicine rather than integral medicine.
  • There should only be one School:Medicine, which should include divisions for evidence-based medicine, integrative medicine, and alternative medicine.
As I read your response above, I believe it supports this combined medicine approach rather than demonstrating that they should be separate.

Sorry, no, this is exactly the opposite of integrative medicine. I'll probably have to add that.
Furthermore I don't think alternative medicine or the like can appropriately be regarded as a division of medicine. I expect the School:Medicine to represent the conventional medicine which in many ways is orthogonal to alternative medicine in many facets. Though the integrative - but not the integral - medicine tries to incorporate ideas from the alternative into the conventional medicine. But I don't have the time to go into details now. Please provide a source for integral medicine. A search for this topic comes back as integrative medicine, and multiple sources define it as a combination of conventional and alternative medicine. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 20:22, 7 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
