Welcome to the Wikiversity Center of Biblical Translation.
Center description[edit | edit source]
This Center is a Wikiversity content development project where participants create, organize and develop learning resources related to Bible translation.
The Holy Bible is the Christian holy text. While the exact content of this collection of Scripture has been disputed, most American Protestant Bibles contain sixty-six books. Thirty-nine of these books are contained in the Old Testament (typically arranged Genesis-Malachi)and twenty-seven (typically arranged Matthew-Revelation) in the New Testament. Various texts exist outside of this including the Apocrypha and the Gnostic Gospels. Orthodox traitions and the Roman Catholic Church claim the Old Testament Apocrypha as canonical Scripture; the debate of whether or not to include the Apocrypha in the canon of Scripture is a long-standing one which is one the divisions between the Protestant and Catholic-Orthodox traditions.
The translation of the Christian holy texts (Scriptures) into languages which have not previously received them is the subject of this center. Currently there are myriad Bible Translations underway in various world languages. Bible translation has become a focus for the missional outreaches of many evangelical faiths. There are many organizations dedicated to Bible translation as a means to evangelize pre-Christian cultures that work throughout the world. Some notable organizations include:

Learning materials and learning projects are located in the main Wikiversity namespace. Simply make a link to the name of the learning project (learning projects are independent pages in the main namespace) and start writing! We suggest the use of the learning project template (use "subst:Learning project boilerplate" on the new page, inside the double curved brackets {{}}).
Learning materials and learning projects can be used by multiple departments. Cooperate with other departments that use the same learning resource.
