Introduction

[edit | edit source]
The goal of this book to make insights from psychological science freely available.

This book offers a guide for human beings in how to live happier, healthier lives, based on insights from psychological science about motivation and emotion. The book does not suggest a grand theory, but rather addresses specific problems and opportunities that exist in the human condition and how they could be approached using knowledge of psychological theory and research.

This is a free, open, online, crowd-sourced book, largely authored by participants in a 3rd year university psychology unit, Motivation and Emotion, 2011. The book is openly licensed and openly editable, using the Wikimedia Foundation platform, as a contribution to, and example of, the foundation's mission of empowering and engaging "people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally"[1].

More information about the development of this book can be found here.
